We had the good fortune of connecting with Miles Arnell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miles, how do you think about risk?
When you face the inevitability of your own mortality, what choice do you have but to take risks? Too many people are living their lives as if they have an unlimited amount of time left, but the reality is that your last day could be any given new day, and at best, life is short even for those blessed enough to live a long healthy life. Furthermore, the time in which we have the stamina and wherewithal to accomplish big goals is an even smaller window of time in the span of a lifetime, so there’s really no time to play it safe. Not to sound dark, because I’m actually a very positive, optimistic person, but we all need to accept that we are provided a painfully short amount of time to listen to our soul, figure out what we want out of life, and then go for it. In my opinion, the pain of regret should be every humans worst fear.
I have always put everything on the line for what I believe in and for what I want, for my music career and for my entrepreneurial pursuits. Tell that person you’re thinking about that you love them, approach that gatekeeper in your industry and ask to be mentored or to do business with you, call that prospect, take that trip to a seminar across the country, make every decision with the understanding that your time is limited, and your legacy depends on the boldness in which you live your life and fight for your dreams. So everyday, fighting for the people, places, things I want in my life is what I do, and that has definitely helped me achieve the success I’ve had so far and will undoubtedly play a role in whatever comes next in my career.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The best way I can describe myself is an old soul. I’m the type to prefer deep conversations, listen to older music that’s a bit more intricate, emotionally expressive, intellectually stimulating and less contrived, and have certain values in my personal life that no longer exist the way they used to.
All of that has led me to pursuing the sound I call ‘luxury pop’, you can hear pieces of what I aspire for it be in my older songs; a nice blend of old school mixed with some new school influences, but it’s always a work in progress, and my newer songs are coming much closer to what that genres supposed to feel like, and that’s what I feel sets me apart from others. I’m proud of my ability to be 0% discouraged by rejection and to mentally re-interpret any ‘failures’ at temporary setbacks rather than actual failures.
Nothing has been easy about my experience in the music industry except maybe the music making part itself. The music business is a cold, ruthless, backstabbing place where liars, thieves, con artists, and narcissists are hiding behind every handshake, empty promise, and friendly smile. It is not for the faint of heart, and I attribute any success’ I’ve had to being able to discern the genuine people from the disingenuous, call it separating the wheat from the tares. Same thing goes for my entrepreneurial pursuits, such as co-founding my business Techaxy, it’s about creating long term relationships with the right people who you can trust, have integrity, and who share your goals. The whole process of achieving a business or creative goal becomes a lot more realistic and speeds up dramatically when you’ve done a good job of aligning yourself with a good team of good, well-connected people.
I want the world to know my brand as an artist represents the finer things in life, but not just materialistically, it encompasses family, sharing good vibrations with others, and compassion as arguably the finest things in life. Not to mention, a good time, because if you come to one of my shows, you will have a good time, the energy will be high, and the climate will be friendly and welcoming to all. My story is ongoing, I don’t feel enough of it has been told yet to summarize any key takeaways other than to realize love is stronger than fear, and the best is yet to come.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, if we’re talking about my hometown of New Milford, CT, you’re talking about some of the most quaint, picturesque countryside scenery you’ll ever see, so definitely head to lovers leap state park and Kent falls, rent a boat and go out on candlewood lake, eat at dolce restaurant in danbury, CT about 2o minutes away, and walk down the cobblestone 100+ year old village area of the town green.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In my journey so far there are absolutely people who I’ll be eternally grateful for, all for differing reasons. Big shout out to Sara Allen and Kristen Hall for mentoring me as a songwriter and inspiring me with their legendary successes, wisdom-laden stories, and selflessness in willing to help me develop my understanding of songwriting, they both literally lived the dream. They might not know this, but I believe even knowing them at all has put me more in alignment with what I do energetically, I’m a big believer in that sort of thing.
Also big shout out to Chris Brown (the music executive, not the singer) for managing me and helping get me on some big stages opening for acts like Nelly and ballooning my career at the time going back a few years. He’s also a good friend and we continue to work together on my newest project.
Another big shout out to my co-writer and good friend Stephon Riley, what a talent and good human being he is. Also shouting out Mack McKinney, another legend I have the privilege of knowing who’s produced my latest songs and always has great advice. Can’t forgot my other co-writer and ‘sponsor’ Anthony Meyer who has helped put me in some amazing positions, especially as a songwriter, I can’t thank him enough for always going out of his way for me.
I also have to shout out my father who’s more my business mentor, a lot of what I apply to my entrepreneurial pursuits can be attributed to learning from watching him own and build his own business over the years. He’s undefeated in matters of human nature, I’m almost tired of being wrong every time I disagree with him about someones intentions haha.
