We had the good fortune of connecting with Mithanya Olivert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mithanya, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’m so glad that you asked that question. There are so many parts to this question, however, I’d credit it to three of my family members. My mother and grandmother, who’s cooking was exceptional, and my uncle who’s also a chef, were the driving force that inspired this company. Growing up, their cuisines always warmed my heart and, of course, my stomach. My uncle, who was a chef, however, truly inspired me to chase a dream. A dream more unorthodox than the rest of my peers who were aspiring doctors, lawyers, teachers, and policemen.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
There are so many amazing and credible chefs in the culinary industry. While I wouldn’t take anything from their work, that speaks for itself, what sets me and The Way To Your Heart Catering apart is the relationships we foster and cultivate with our clients. Our clients are valuable in our sight; it’s not who pays the highest invoice. We’ve witnessed some clients get married, have children, start careers, and advance in their professions. We give back to our clients as well. One of the events that The Way To Your Heart Catering hosted this June of 2024 was the Chef’s Table Experience. This experience allowed our clients, and other community leaders, to come into a room and reminisce on the amazing dishes they’ve once tasted and explore new ones while fostering connections of their own.
Business-wise, it was not easy getting here. Many days and nights seemingly warranted me to give up, especially with overhead and costs that seemed to supersede the revenue drawn in. However, prayer and consistently putting myself and my business out there warranted the right people and clientele to choose my services. The encouragement of my husband, my mom, my kids, siblings, best friends, and other family members kept me fueled. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from being in business is that consistency and relationships are essential and will eventually reap rewards. Being consistent in this business, daily putting myself in front of people, despite the many no’s, eventually granted me a yes.
The Way To Your Heart Catering is more than a catering service, it’s a family and network of many different people from all around that band together to create fond memories, laughter, and light.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let me throw this out there, the majority of the time, I’m introverted. However, I can be an extrovert when needed. If my best friend came to town, wanting to sightsee and explore, I’d take her down to Las Olas, a small strip with many restaurants and nice things to do here in South Florida.
Of course, it’s my best friend, so she knows me quite well; there’s a sense of balance. We’re able to have a great time while reducing the amount of people we’re around to maintain peace.
I’d take her to one of my favorite restaurants in the area, Louie Bossi. Their food is delicious, and being a chef myself, we’re usually hard critics of the food that we taste outside of the food we cook. The ambiance is a place for exquisite conversation and catching up.
Of course, being adventurous, we’d visit the Museum of Science and Discovery to explore artifacts and new facts in science. Another beautiful and peaceful place we’d visit would be the Living Sculpture Sanctuary. It’s a place of tranquility and peace that warrants deep heartfelt conversation; reflecting, with one another, and having sister moments. That’s more of our speed, talking about life, family, and life events that cause dynamics to shift in our lives.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would most certainly dedicate my shoutouts to my family. They are my core. They instilled the love of helping others and seeing them happy in me. This love for seeing people happy and enjoying themselves took the form of cooking and preparing cuisines for others. I also would shout out my amazing husband and children. They inspire me to keep going even when the odds seem stacked against me. Having them in my corner keeps me going. Lastly, I’d credit all of my amazing clients. Those who I have had the pleasure of servicing are the reason that I continue doing this as well. Being able to see a room filled with smiles and laughter is what brings me the most joy.
