We had the good fortune of connecting with Mo Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mo, what matters most to you?
If I’m only allowed to name one single value, I will go with integrity. I believe that integrity is a crucial foundational piece of 19 Media Group. Warren and I, both have strong work ethics, and we put emphasis on both the work and the ethics. The business world can be grimy and it is often cut throat. However we do not believe those negative aspects are fundamental to entrepreneurship. We truly care about the podcasts and podcasters in our network. We genuinely want to see our partners excel. We believe that our dedication to the work, along with our dedication to integrity, will allow 19 Media Group to continue to prosper.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The 19 Media Group is a black owned podcast network. Our unique roster of podcasts include both sports and lifestyles. 19’s motto is “Amplifying Voices Together”.

In general, I am most proud of our diversity. Although we are a small network, we represent a wide variety of backgrounds. At a more micro level, I am very proud of our growth. Our business is young. 19 Media Group is about to turn 2 years old. To see the progress from where we were to where we are is exhilarating. The progress in listenership network wide, the start up of 19’s youtube page & the addition of sponsors are all something that Warren, I, and the whole network can take pride in. For me personally, it’s almost like fatherhood. Two years ago, 19 Media Group was just a thought. Now, today, watching it walk makes me smile. I can not wait to see it run.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being born and raised in a city that has it all, is both a gift and a curse. The gifts are obvious, but the downside is when everything is at your fingertips nothing seems special. So if I had a friend come to visit for a week I’d spend the 1st 6 days running around taking them to every tourist spot of interest to them. Then on day seven I’d take them to my favorite spot in the city. From midtown you can take a 10 minute tram ride to Roosevelt Island which sits in the East River. It’s calm & quiet. It is the perfect place to still see all the hustle and bustle of the city, but also far enough away to disconnect from it. I go there often, and those serene moments mean so much. So it’s six days on the run, and then a final day made for reflection.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
