We had the good fortune of connecting with Molly Harrington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Molly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew I wanted to create a product that honored mothers, making them feel seen and special, and also one that gave back to mothers in need. Motherhood is quite possibly the most intimate shared experience women can have. Mamas who have absolutely nothing in common, and whose life and circumstance can look completely different from each other’s, share this deep bond through the experience of motherhood, and so the idea for the MAMASTE bracelet (pronounced like “namaste”) is a symbol & reminder of this divine connection that all mamas share.

What should our readers know about your business?
MAMASTE (pronounced like “namaste”) is a jewlery brand honoring the divine light in every mother. The collection of bracelets features gemstones unique to each mama’s motherhood experience, and each bracelet is a symbol & reminder of the divine light that all mamas share.

It was extremetly important to me to create a product that also gave back to mothers in need, so for each bracelet sold, $10 is given to Every Mother Counts, and non-profit working to provide equitable and compassionate maternal care to mothers globally.

The road to creating this business was admitedly very challenging. I started designing the brand and the product while postpartum with my daughter, working a full time job otherwise, and in the midst of becoming a single mother by choice with a 9 month old baby.

Another major hurdle arose when it came time to place my first product order from my overseas factory. Unbeknownst, a hacker had infiltrated the communications between myself and the factory, and so my first product order that I used most of my savings to place (I was willing to bet big on myself!) was sent to scammer account in Indonesia and I never saw that month again. It was a devastating blow, but I have since bounced back and learned that I am much more resilient and determined than I could have imagined. I am a true believer that entrepreneurs who are willing to bet on themselves, get up after they’ve been knocked down, and take risks are the ones who succeed.

What I want people to know about MAMASTE is that it was created out of complete awe for what mothers do, and from the idea that motherhood is quite possibly the most intimate shared experience women can have. Mamas who have absolutely nothing in common, and whose life and circumstance can look completely different from each other’s, share this deep bond through the experience of motherhood.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The beach! Obviously. But more specifically I would take them to Soho House for a beach/pool day.
I also love sports, so I would get into some beach volleyball on South Beach, and also take them to Miami Heat game. Doya, one of may favorite restaurants, would be a definite dinner spot. I also lived in NYC for the past 11 years, so I would also take them to Pastis!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to all the mothers that inspired me to create this business. Witnessing the strength and resilience of so many mothers from all walks of life, who’s love, struggle and sacrifice largely goes unnoticed, drove me to create a business that would honor them. And to shout out one in particular, my own mama Cathy, who has been a constant source of support, wisdom and compassion for me throughout my own motherhood journey.
