We had the good fortune of connecting with Monifa Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monifa, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Homeschooling for the first six years of our child’s life has been an amazing learning experience for both us and them. It teaches you so much about yourself and them, how they learn what they are truly interested in. Once we placed him in the school system a year ago we realized how advanced homeschooling made him. It truly makes a world of a difference and it makes for a solid foundation.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There are many things that we have achieved that continue to fill us with pride however, two things stand out the most; with the help of our managers at the time Othman Muhklis and Rick Elgood, David Rodigan on BBC 1Xtra invited us to do a live performance which was featured on all BBC 1Xtra platforms this in turn propelled us into the international touring phase of our career. Along the was we’ve come to the understanding that independence is overrated. We all need a support system to help us gain and maintain success.
And for what we want the world to know about us is our music, Judy take some time out, log into the different platforms and listen to what we have to offer. Our debut album Wanted volume 1 is available in all platforms.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well we are going to have to represent for the north coast of Jamaica and there are so many things to do and places to see. It feels almost wrong to call the name of any one place because there are so many places to go. First of all the dynamics of places to stay range from basic to high class luxury like Beyoncé and Jay-Z level and the people are amazing not to mention entertainment! The north coast is where all major music festivals are held on the island. So much to do and see. It all demands on the vide you’re going for.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Philbert Grant was one of the first persons who saw the immense wealth of talent and helped us to establish ourselves as a band. We will forever be grateful.
