We had the good fortune of connecting with Moriana Ratliff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Moriana, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want to and will be THE SUGAR PLUG. I AM THE SUGAR PLUG. There is no one like me. I want people to remember my delicious desserts and treats but also remember the connections I’ve made. I brought people together, supported other businesses and entrepreneurs, and ultimately guided and inspired others to live out their dreams and apply pressure to achieve them. As much as I’ve learned from my experiences, I’ve shared with others. My brand is genuine, unique, and highly sought after.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My products are genuinely made with love. They may not all be consistent in looks or shape and sizes but I always give generously and it always taste amazing. I like to switch up “the norm”. For example instead of a slice of pound cake, I’ll make it into a pound cake heart. Now you’re really eating pound cake made with love. It looks like it too. Love is universal and 365. It translates and transitions well wherever I go. As long as people understand that, they understand what I do it for. To spread more love.

I got to where I am today by taking risks and staying consistent. Even during the pandemic, a lot of people lost their businesses but I didn’t let that deter me. I chose to focus on my craft instead and became a pastry chef for 2 years working at the W and Versace Mansion learning and expanding my skill set. I am now able to do classic baked goods as well as high level French pastry.

I want the world to know that I AM HERE! I AM THE SUGAR PLUG.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother always made it look easy. I have so much respect for how she raised not only myself but my sisters as well. I wouldn’t have such a strong and determined attitude without her. I truly appreciate everyone who has ever shared any of my content, referred any of my services, or sent me words of encouragement. There’s so many of you I collectively want to say thank you to each and everyone who continues for support and show up for me. My city! The whole DMV where it all started. I’m bringing it back to you all. Miami is like my second birthplace. I hustle and learned how to become a better hustler in this city like no other.
