We had the good fortune of connecting with Muochukwu Flourish and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Muochukwu, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I felt free doing it, so I had to put my all in it because it gave me freedom and I enjoyed the freedom I got from doing what I love.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I’m most proud of is of my progress and I’m excited about trying new things and working to get better at each one. I started practicing my drawings in 2018 and by 2019 I was already getting better at it so I’d say that’s when I started professionally, it wasn’t easy though especially when you come from the place I grew. Apart from the fact that there’s no one to support your dreams and everyone in the family wants you to do a different “meaningful” profession also there are little or no opportunities to help so it’s just the passion that drives one to overcome and also meeting the right people along the way.
I’ve learnt not to give up or be stopped by these obstacles and just keep going, getting better and progressing.
Well, I just want the world to know about me and my brand that I’m coming in a new dimension. I’ve got a lot to give out through my art and I’m looking forward to them seeing that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I don’t really go out much. I just stay at home, chill and draw most times. It’s just sometimes I go out to few places, some art galleries, malls or restaurants. I’d just say I myself I’m still exploring my city though.
But yeah there are some nice spots like the Nike art gallery in Lagos and some beach also we could hang out in.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank Frank Ndibam for being a great mentor and leader especially in my art life and other aspects. I owe him lots of thanks and I’m grateful because he played a huge role in my life and my art career so far.
