We had the good fortune of connecting with Nadine Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nadine, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to be an everlasting impact on youths that will keep influencing each generation positively and dynamically. I want people to remember me about my God and how purpose-driven I was in accomplishing my heavenly assignment on earth, reproducing my kind.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The art of working with children/youths is one of my most price possessions. I am passionate and purpose-driven about raising up a Godly generation that will keep running for God. What sets me apart from others is not just my passion for children but my ability to connect and build a long-term relationship that creates a bigger influence on that child or teenager than their circumstances or environment. When a relationship is built then mentorship including correction becomes a part of that relationship because “correction outside of relationship breathes rebellion” a friend of mine always says. Hence, I am proud of and excited about children/youth ministry and strive to accomplish healthy relationships in order to repair breaches and restore the foundation of many generations. After all, gone are the days when a child was everyone’s responsibility which speaks to a child’s relationship with his community. On the other hand, getting to where I am today professionally as a teacher and youth leader was not easy. Firstly, I was greatly impacted as a teenager in my church the same way that I am now impacting my youths. That has started my empowerment journey. I was exposed to a greater influence in the church than the other influences out there. The love, patience, and care expressed by the youth leaders during my encounter were life-changing. This greater influence along with mentorship became my guide away from the snares of the inner city; such as teenage pregnancy, crime & violence, rape, dons, etc. As a result, I overcame these challenges and went on to university where I furthered my education. I was also trained as a child’s missionary at Metro World Child the largest children’s ministry in the world in Brooklyn New York where I ministered to thousands of children across New York City. A few of the lessons learned along the way are, you need a greater influence than your struggles to pull you out, two, you need to believe that nothing is impossible with God, three accountability is important and four, trust the process God is in control, not you. I want the world to know that my ministry is available to impact and train other ministries and individuals to become greater influences on their generation. Additionally, my recent educational book is available on Amazon for all kindergarten or preschoolers between ages 3-7. I can be reached at scriptofvituecollections@gmail.com
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Kingston is the city of vibes and electrifying energy. Hence, one of my first stops is to Gloria’s Down Town waterfront or the famous Port Royal branch where you can have the best freshly prepared seafood. My favorite is parrot fried fish with festivals and bammy with ripe fried plantains and steamed fish in coconut sauce with okra and pumpkin. Next, we can then journey to Ochi Rios to Dun’s River Falls for an adventurous day on the beach and fall climbing. Back to Kingston at the historic Devon House for some ice cream and pastries and hang out while the kids play on the lawn or the children’s playpen. Also, to Emancipation Park for a beautiful and peaceful stroll and scenery would top the trip and a visit to the Bob Marley Mesum at 56 Hope Road Kingston.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank God for these key persons and organizations that have contributed to the budding and fruit-bearing seasons of my life. Firstly, my mother and father Beverley Lowe and Fitzroy James. Evangelist Rodrick Robinson and Family, Rose Marie Smith and family, Rev. John Hardy, and the Miracle Tabernacle New Testament church of God family. To the Maranatha Christian Church where I presently worship and work with youths from the inner city communities. Also to all my Waterhouse youths “Big up to you all”, to Lady Tracey Nosakhare and Script of Virtue Collections just to name a few. Most importantly, to my husband and son Christopher and Shamarly Edwards who are my biggest supporters. Shoutout!
