We had the good fortune of connecting with Nadjhla Gracia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nadjhla, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The goal here at NADJEA is to focus on Slow Fashion, a sustainable approach to fashion that not only delivers optimum quality and luxurious swimwear but also reduces our carbon footprint to ensure we are environmentally friendly.

We are contending with environmental pollution by creating limited edition Swim and Resort Wear. Every collection is curated passionately, handcrafted in limited quantities with precise attention to detail. Each swimwear collection from NADJEA is tailored for a memorable experience, with sustainability as a focal point. Our fabrics are sourced in small batches to eliminate waste from Eco-friendly textile suppliers, toiling to set the standard for successful Eco-friendly fashion manufacturing.

Our Swimwear is packaged, branded, and shipped using sustainable, recycled, recyclable, and naturally biodegradable packaging. This means that the paper that makes up our tissues and packaging is from a supply chain managed responsibly, sustainably, and certified by the global alliance of national forest certification systems. Our swimwear offers fashionable UV protection while being resistant to the natural environment, all part of our rigorous efforts to make sure you can be proud when you receive your swimwear. Thank you for joining us in becoming an Eco-Ally to help spread beauty and reduce waste.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most excited about still finding joy in what I do, meeting great people along the way, and doing my part to keep the swimwear industry fun and edgy. Having the opportunity to think outside the box and bring those ideas to life is really fun. It’s interesting seeing how the trends evolve. Artistically speaking, I find it more fulfilling curating my own collections, as an entrepreneur it tends to work out as well. I get to navigate the industry at my own pace. It took a while to be confident about my designs, it took years of trial and error to finalize the patterns for some signature pieces. Which is also what sets me apart from other designers, I focus on daring cuts, body-hugging ribbons, and vibrant splashes of color for a chic and modern look.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is always a fun question to answer. Miami is a vibrant city with lots of exciting places to explore. Some of the most fun and interesting places and things to check out in Miami can be found on South Beach. It’s a great place to swim, sunbathe, people-watch, or take a stroll down Ocean Drive.

Little Havana and Wynwood are always fun when it comes to food and music. Visit Calle Ocho to try some authentic Cuban food, watch a salsa performance, or smoke a cigar at a local shop. And Design District for high-end fashion boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants. It’s a great place to go shopping, grab a bite to eat, or check out some contemporary art.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to Patti and Alan Herbert. I had the opportunity to gradually share the vision for NADJEA with them, they believed in me and celebrated the idea, by providing both encouragement and opportunity. Spending time with Mrs. Herbert inspired me to create the Art Deco Fashion Show, which was first presented by the Richmond Hotel. The latest rendition of the Art Deco Fashion Show is being presented by The Gabriel Hotel South Beach, an Art Deco Masterpiece that embodies the chic flair of Miami’s Art Deco District. I’m sure they would have been proud of the work we’re doing with NADJEA so far.
