We had the good fortune of connecting with Nataliia Mandryk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nataliia, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
First of all, you need to remind yourself why you started. How you imagined the end result and what difficulties you imagined to have at the beginning of the journey. Losing motivation and the desire to give up are quite normal. We are used to living in a comfort zone and if something goes wrong, (whether it’s the task of losing weight or the road to opening a business) we experience stress and psychologically want to avoid it. In these moments, you need to ask yourself –
in a year’s time will I regret giving up? In 90% of cases, the answer is yes. Remind yourself that any goal can be achieved.

It takes a lot of patience. You need to think optimistically and believe in your success. We all tend to have doubts, fear and lack of self-confidence.

Very often, successful people say that in the very moment they wanted to give up, it just turned out to be the last spurt before achieving success. We tend to only focus on the end goal, knowing exactly how to get there, involving a denial of alternatives. You need to look for other approaches, change your point of view, and perhaps you will get the desired result faster.

The most difficult times are the harbinger of a major breakthrough. Think about whether you really want this, and if so, then gather all your strength, clench your fist and go till the end. It is better to try and be disappointed in your expectations than to retreat and regret the missed opportunity.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I can say that I’m still in the process of growing and I’m not planning to stop. When it seems that everything is not going the way I would like, and that I want to give up (as I wrote earlier), I compare myself to who I was a year ago.

What has happened during this year, how many new interesting acquaintances I’ve met, what the business I’m doing has led to … and you know, it motivates, and you think what a damn good fellow I am. Yes, emotional swings do happen, each of us has a personal life in addition to work, and everything is not always smooth and rosy on it. Therefore, you need to clearly understand why you are moving on, who you want to become, and what you need to do for it … but not just go with the flow.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a very people-loving person, and I like big cities. Cities with millions of inhabitants. I am in love with New York, Tokyo or Seoul. I love movement and people, big cities fills me with energy, and this gives me the motivation to move forward. I would propose to a friend to walk around the historical places of the city on foot or hiring a bike . When it’s time for dinner, it would definitely be a fish restaurant. It does not have to be world famous – the main thing is that there is delicious food and friendly service. I do not like pretentious places and people with a forced smile. I wouldn’t go to a restaurant if the place is cool, but the food isn’t great.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to express my gratitude to my husband. Without the support of loved ones, it is difficult to move on. I am also grateful to all the people I met in the field of my work: they are all creative people who inspire me new projects and with whom I want to go further in life. I think that it is very important to surround yourself with those people who fill you with energy, with whom you are comfortable.
