We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathalie Cardona and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathalie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It was my last semester of undergrad at FIU where I was getting ready to graduate with my Bachelors in Dietetics & Nutrition. At the time I had a job as a Personal Trainer at a local gym and I loved being able to help women transform their lives through fitness. The workload for my last semester started picking up during Midterms & Finals and I found myself unable to dedicate my time to my personal training clients.
I decided to take the leap and transition my Personal Training business to the online coaching space. At the time I wanted to keep my clients on track by providing them exercise routines that they can follow, meanwhile I finished my degree. I had no idea the impact I was about to have on Social Media.
After I graduated with my degree, I continued my education and received several Nutrition Certifications to also provide nutrition coaching to my clients. That is when NatCFit LLC was born!
What should our readers know about your business?
Before I started coaching, I was battling with the same issues my clients come to me struggling with. I had this mentality that in order to reach my fitness goals, lose the weight, and get toned, I had to eat as little as possible and do hours of cardio. Like many women that come to me, I had a very negative relationship with food and I felt like nothing I did was working.
I spent the first couple of years in my fitness journey yo-yo dieting which caused me to develop an eating disorder. I was so afraid of food that I would barely eat during the week, only to binge eat on the weekends. This cycle went on for years and as you can imagine, I wasn’t getting anywhere closer to my goals.
Once I learned about macros, stopped fearing food, and educated myself on nutrition, I started seeing the results I was looking for. This is the turning point in my journey that pushed me to want to help women who are struggling with this same issue! Fast forward to today, I have now been coaching women for the past 6 years and I specialize in sustainable weight loss. I teach women how to reach their fitness goals without giving up their favorite foods by tracking macros.
My approach to weight loss is different from others in my industry because I encourage my clients to eat more of the foods they love, drop their limiting beliefs around food, and work on building new habits so they can create a lifestyle change.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestie is in town we are doing a full tour of the 305! We’d first start off by visiting a beach, of course, but it wouldn’t be South Beach. I’d take her to Virginia Key Beach which is more private, less touristy, and the beach is just as beautiful. After soaking up some Vitamin D and taking IG-worthy photos by the rocks, we’d head out to lunch. My favorite spot for foodie finds is definitely Wynwood. Wynwood has a great night life as well as restaurants that you can enjoy during the day. One of my favorite taco spots is in Wynwood: Caja Caliente. Caja Caliente serves huge tacos with a nation fusion twist! Some of my favorite tacos are the Tuna Poke Tacos, Pulpo Tacos, and Carne Asada tacos. Walking around Wynwood would be the next thing on our to do list. This is great because we can digest our food while also wandering around enjoying the street art. Our next stop will be The Wharf. The Wharf is great because its an open-air venue, overlooking the Miami River, with an outdoor bar, food trucks, and great music. We can hangout here for a bit while taking some more IG-worthy photos with a mojito served in a pineapple. Doesn’t get more Miami than that!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m a firm believer that a truly successful entrepreneur can not do it alone. In the beginning of my business, I had to wear many hats and was very proactive in learning as much as possible about business. I remember listening to podcasts while doing cardio and learning from others like Andy Frisella, Angie Lee, and Gary V, to name a few. I quickly realized that wearing all the hats in my business wasn’t conducive to my success and that is when I decided to take another leap and hire an assistant to help in the tasks that weren’t my zone of genius.Outsourcing allowed me to gain back time and put my focus on coaching, content creating, and coming up with new programs and recipe books.
I’m also extremely grateful for the support system I have around me. My family played a huge role in my success by supporting me the whole way through. Their constant words of encouragement really helped me during the times I felt like giving up they are a daily reminder on why I work so hard.
Lastly, I’d like to thank my good friend Tony who has helped me tremendously break out of the imposter syndrome most entrepreneurs have and encouraged me to see the full potential in my brand. He also taught me everything I know about ClickFunnels, Marketing, Creating Offers, and Sales which was a pivotal point in my success so far.
