Meet Nena Polito | Preschool Teacher & Polito’s Wife & Assistant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nena Polito and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nena, what do you attribute your success to?
Behind the success of Polito, Artista Plastico, and the brand we’ve built together, lies a story of perseverance, teamwork, and resilience. I am not only Polito’s wife, but also his assistant and manager — while also working full-time as a preschool teacher and being a full-time mom.
We immigrated to the U.S. eight years ago, almost by accident. We were just on vacation, but the situation in Venezuela wasn’t getting any better. A casual encounter led us to a lawyer who, for the first time, gave us real hope. Interestingly, a few years earlier, another attorney had told us we had no options. But I’m not someone who gives up easily. That “no” only pushed me to start gathering evidence — little by little, almost without realizing it. By the time we sat with the new attorney, I already had most of what we needed to start our case.
That’s why, when I reflect on the question of what the most important factor behind our success is, I can say without a doubt: perseverance. The determination to keep going, the strength to dream again, and the will to fight for a better future — that’s what brought us here and keeps us moving forward every day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Our art is a reflection of our journey — one of migration, resilience, transformation, and deep love for beauty in everyday life. Polito is a visual artist with a unique voice. His work blends urban and poetic elements, mixing realism with symbolism, always using vibrant colors and storytelling materials. What sets him apart is his authenticity and his ability to deeply connect with others through his art.
What we’re most proud of is how his work has crossed borders — not just geographical, but emotional. Every exhibit and every collector who feels moved by a piece is a victory we celebrate as a family.
Getting here wasn’t easy. We left Venezuela looking for stability, starting over from zero. As his wife, assistant, and manager, I took on everything behind the scenes — organization, logistics, social media, networking — so he could focus fully on creating. We’ve learned that consistency, community, and staying true to your purpose make all the difference.
What we want the world to know is that Polito’s art doesn’t just decorate spaces — it tells stories and sparks connection. Behind every piece is a family that believes in the power of art to transform and unite.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, first and foremost, we’d take them to some of our favorite restaurants — Italian spots like Pizzeria La Leggenda, delicious sushi at Sushiato, and a mouthwatering parrilla in Doral for some authentic grilled flavors. Of course, we’d also introduce them to some amazing Venezuelan flavors, including one of the best cocadas at Coco’s Juancho.
We’d make sure they get to experience the natural beauty too — taking them to the stunning beaches near Naples, which are absolutely breathtaking. Plus, we’d explore beautiful neighborhoods like Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, and West Palm Beach, soaking in the culture and vibrant atmosphere.
To mix it all up, we’d spend some time at a park, doing completely different activities so they can enjoy the very best days here with us in Florida. And of course, we wouldn’t miss taking them to see a live show by George Harris, adding an unforgettable entertainment experience to the trip.
Florida is full of beautiful things to see and do, and it’s always buzzing with the latest trends and excitement.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our list is long, because behind every person’s success there are always those who lend a hand to help you move forward. First and foremost, God, who never abandoned us. Then the Biella family, our dear compadres, who were the first to help us — we lived in their home for two months and they supported us through every step of the transition.
Oscar Leal, the best DJ and practically my husband’s brother, offered to be our sponsor — and of course, he deserves a special mention.
We also have to recognize the amazing friends we met here, who quickly became family. Without a doubt, having that emotional support — feeling loved and heard — makes all the difference.
Each and every one of them deserves more than just recognition. Our family will be forever grateful.
