We had the good fortune of connecting with Nesia LaTosh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nesia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought of me starting my own business stemmed from me being laid off from a job that I was an employee of for years. I was taken aback as for the reason of the termination which sparked me to look into starting a business of my own where I would never have to experience that feeling again.

I recall stating to myself one day that I would like to learn how to sew. Action was placed behind that statement once I received a sewing machine. I had never worked a sewing machine a day in my life so I watched videos on YouTube to start the process. I would practice on it every day to get better at it. Sewing then became my passion and I then decided to offer it as a service. That has been one of the best decisions that Ive made in life. Being able to turn a passion into a business has been so fulfilling to me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What makes me most proud about my craft is that it was completely self taught. I never attended a fashion design school or took any sewing classes in my life. It was mainly me learning the basic steps via YouTube and practicing on my own daily to learn the ins and outs of what works for me. By practicing daily, I was able to learn techniques to improve my skill. Every time I finish a dress, I’m in complete awe of the turnout. I find myself saying this phrase all the time, “Wow, I really made that with my hands”.

What excites me the most is seeing the look and smiles on the faces of the individuals when they first try on their dress. It’s a feeling that I really can’t explain. All I know is that it instantly warms my heart every time knowing that a product I made was able to put a smile on their face and bring them joy in that moment.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way with this craft is that you have to have A LOT of patience. There will be times when things do not go as planned, when you will have to start over and over at times until you get the desired outcome. There will be times when there will be extra long days, exhausting nights and countless hours of sewing but once you see the final result of the dress, it makes it all worthwhile.

What I would like the world to know about my brand is that it’s a one-woman operation that loves to turn pieces of fabric into fabulosity. My brand caters to all women of different sizes who would love to have a custom dress made especially for them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I know for sure that I would take them to what I believe is the best breakfast spot in the Broward County area, Just Spoons Cafe. The food has been magnificent each and every time I have patronized the establishment so I’m sure they would love it just as much. I would also take them for a drive through the Las Olas area that has several shops, restaurants and bars and shortly after ride the strip of Ft Lauderdale beach. One of the places that I would recommend for dinner on the las Olas strip is Eddie V’s.

The next place that we would venture off to would be the Wynwood area in Miami. I love a good photo op and there are plenty of areas within Wynwood that would provide the aesthetics. There are also plenty of restaurants and bars to select from all depending what you are in the mood for. I would take them to the Bayside area which has an outside shopping area, several restaurants to choose from, a Ferris wheel that offers views of the downtown Miami skyline and Bayfront Park. There is also a place there that offers a speedboat tour or different boat rides/tours. One of them take a tour along the Star Island that has some of the most beautiful homes in South Florida.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my sons, CJ (Clint Jr.) and TY (Ty’Corrien). I became a mother at a very young age. I also went through a situation earlier in life that took me away from my kids. Upon my return, I vowed that I would never place myself in a situation that could possibly take me away from my kids again. Although I receive love, support and encouragement from my family and close friends as well, my young kings have been and will always be my sole reasons to continue pushing to make something of myself.
