We had the good fortune of connecting with Nia Shanay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to see how it felt like to truly be on my own time. I had invested so much of myself in so many other projects & places that’s continued to thrive, so why not put that focus in myself and watch it grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So my art is literally my way of life. Everything that is significant to the makings of me is put into these “peaces” I finally put myself in a space in life where I studied mindfulness, created happiness and a peace of mind. Not to also mention my name means purpose in Swahili. So you are literally getting a “peace”of me. I began creating art as a child use to because it was a getaway. When I wasn’t ok or even felt alone I would write or draw or create. It became an outlet that eventually turned into a passion. I was able to heal myself through my craftsmanship.
Ultimately art has become my way of life and I want to show anyone that you too can create the life you have always desired despite what your background looks like.
Recreate yourself and watch how your abundance flows.
Everything you have ever desired is already within.
That’s been my life’s lesson.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite spots is Hollywood beach down here. I do my best to make it a habit to go and do my art on the beach. It’s something about the water that’s always calmed. The beach also has a nice boardwalk that’s good for people coming in town. I’m a huge foodies so I’m gona take you some of my favorite places to eat. Joys Roti Delight and Trapbachi have been my top favorite places to eat so far.
I’m a fan of live music too, so I love checking out shows every so often.
And my last favorite thing is thrifting, it’s not for everyone but it’s fun to me, I always find the most exclusive pieces.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes of course, I’d like to thank Paris Williams of Pw collections for being a mentor to me. I have watched her bloom over time and successfully run all of her businesses, be true to herself and also an amazing mother. Paris makes these natural soaps that are amazing, she designs clothes, is a herbalist, etc the list goes on. Very dope individual. She has truly inspired me to continue to make my dreams possible and create live I truly desire. So I thank her for her constant support.
