We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Steffen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The way I approach a risk is to assess it , figure it out and overcome it. Sometimes it hurts but thats life.
I have always invested in myself through out life.

It was a risk to go to the fire academy and put all my tuition on a credit card but now 15 years later I am Lieutenant
It was a risk to spend the last of my money and purchase GC books and now 5 years later I own a thriving construction company in Martin County.

What should our readers know about your business?
Rox Development It started with my buddy and I on face book doing handy man work for whom ever. Each job got bigger and bigger.
My approach to construction is consistent with my approach to life, I continue to go to the job that is just our of reach of my current capabilities, find a way to figure it out and level up . Today we are building new homes and working on commercial re development projects.

The biggest lesson I learned is that it’s all about your team, this goes for both construction and fire. Don’t be afraid to fail, don’t be afraid to take that chance… there is nothing worse than a “What if”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
They need to experience a Sandbar Sunday followed by dinner at the Gafford. Terrafirmata is a great venue for live shows.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a lot of people that have supported and inspired me but if I have to pick one it is Stuart Fire Rescue department as the organization held me accountable, believed in me and tested my mental, emotional and physical every 3rd day
