We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicolas Casanova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicolas, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Once you experience a different culture, you realize how important those early years are. I live in Miami, but originally I’m from Bogotá, Colombia. I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to play, explore, and participate in other amazing activities that ultimately lead to a good and healthy creative environment.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I guess I can divide my life into two chapters: when I was living in Colombia and now in the States. Even though things were going really well for me in Colombia, there was always this inner voice urging me to aim higher.

I felt I had to be where the action was, and when I moved to the U.S., I quickly realized there were more opportunities here—but with that, also more competition. The struggles of moving to a new place and incorporating that into the creative process have become a vital part of the joy in doing what I love.

Right now, I’m writing a lot, and there are some big names already attached to my projects—and projects I’m attached to. I can’t reveal much at the moment, but it’s all building slowly and steadily.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I guess that’s the dilemma of living in Miami—there’s a world of places I could take my best friend, but none are easy to find here. Locally, you’re often surrounded by people with similar experiences. I don’t want to dodge the question, and it may sound cliché, but I value the company more than the location. I could walk for hours under the burning sun, and I’d be fine with it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely. There are always people around you who help, directly or indirectly, to fulfill your goals. I guess at this moment, I’m in the middle of a harvest of new ideas, and my partner in crime deserves a shout-out: my brother, Sebastian Casanova.
