We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole and Manoli Aivazoglou and Lagos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole and Manoli, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In my previous career as a consultant I worked for a huge corporation, although I was challenged and surrounded by incredibly smart people, I felt disconnected from my work and wanted more at the end of each day. The reason I started my own business was simple, it was to create a greater sense of purpose and connection with my work and to build something that would help the greater good. I felt that I couldn’t live my life behind a desk doing work that I felt didn’t really matter, so I took the leap.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Manoli: Our business, The Living Fuel is a wellness consulting company that works with corporations, schools and individuals all over the world to help them reach their full potential.
What sets us apart, is that we’ve had to overcome several of our own personal health challenges to get to where we are today. Through that, we’ve built a system that has helped over 10,000 people achieve long-term health. We practice we preach and take a lot of pride in our work, so it’s much more than a job for us.
One thing that really excites me is the change that I’m beginning to see in the healthcare industry. I think we have a long way to go but I do see people are starting to ask questions and the industry is changing in a way that favors preventative medicine.
Starting this business wasn’t easy by any means. When I decided to quit my job and become Health Coach, there was hardly any information on the Internet about what a Health Coach was or how much they got paid and that was scary. On top of that, I didn’t have a structure or program that I wanted to coach my clients through so I had to build that all from scratch. Living in New York with no income definitely lit a fire underneath me that carried me through the first year of the business.
One of the most important lessons that I’ve learned through this entire process is this: if create a concrete and vivid vision of where you want to be in life and you stick to it and take one small step every day to get there, it will soon start to come to life. The law of attraction has been a game-changer for me, and everything that has come to us has been through attracting those good fortunes by putting ourselves out there and taking risks and seeing what happens…after all, any action is better than no action at all.
Nicole: I’ve always had an interest in health and wellness. My passion has stemmed from overcoming my own challenges, from chronic illness to severe food allergies I’ve experienced it all. Everything really came to a head two years ago when I was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Weeks leading to my diagnosis, I was suddenly experiencing unexplained symptoms like loss of feeling in my arms and legs, loss of coordination, vertigo, panic attacks, memory loss, and heart palpitations to name a few. I spent a year undergoing extreme treatments and was bedridden for months on end. After doctors and medications failed me time and time again, I discovered the power of alternative medicine and nutrition in healing the body.
As I began regaining control of my mind and body, I made the decision to fully devote my time and energy to helping people avoid the helpless feeling I once felt. I went back to school and became certified.
I joined forces with my partner, Manoli, and helped build what is known today as The Living Fuel. Starting a company from the ground up is incredibly challenging. But, at the same time incredibly fulfilling and rewarding. When you are doing something you truly love and are passionate about, it is so much easier to give your heart and soul to it. I am so happy to be serving others with my life purpose.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Nicole: if I had a friend in town I would take them to Wynwood Walls for a nice stroll to see some art and of course, a pit stop at The Taco Stand for some of the best tacos in Miami. Then I would pop over to one of my favorite bars nearby like Le Chick, No 3 Social, or Sugar in Brickell. Saturday my favorite morning activity is hitting the coconut grove farmers market! The most amazing healthy bites and local produce to stock up for the week. After that, I would take my friend to South Beach and hit the One Hotel beach and set up shop for the day, get some sun and swim in the rejuvenating ocean. We would finish the night at one of our favorite restaurants, Mila, and then The Broken Shaker for some drinks after.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One big shift for me came when I was reading the book The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill. While reading I realized that my future was completely in my control and that the world doesn’t happen to you, rather you happen to the world. This realization gave me the confidence to start my own business and to take risks in life.
