We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Oliva and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
While I was in college, the only thing I thought about was work and school, nothing else. I didn’t really make time to do things in my life that I genuinely enjoyed. I would always deny my friends when going out, I wouldn’t allow myself to relax, and on the days that I “took off” I would stress about being unproductive and would end up doing some sort of work whether it was for school, my businesses, or my job.
Once I graduated college, I realized that what I want most in life is to find a balance with my business and with my personal life. I am now working as a full-time freelancer and have the freedom to create my own schedule tailored to my needs, and when needed, I allow myself to have a day off to do the things I love with the people I love.
I truly believe finding balance within your work life will change it for the better and will allow you to stop and enjoy the little moments throughout your everyday life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My business is called Noliva Visuals. It is a social media marketing agency that specializes in helping local businesses in Miami with their social media and photography needs. Noliva Visuals is still a work in progress with a long way to go and it is anything but easy. Starting a business is not easy, it takes time, dedication, and a vision. I like to say that a goal without action is just a dream.
One of the biggest challenges I faced when starting my business was making time for it. I was always so caught up in working my full-time job that I wouldn’t make an effort to work on my business. With that said, I also believe a part of the challenge was just that, the lack of effort, the constant excuses I’d make. So what I did to get out of this slump was set a goal, plan, and execute. I began to apply for freelance positions until I finally had enough clients to support myself without a full-time job. I am now working fully remote for my social media marketing agency and I am creating the life I’ve always dreamed of.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned in this journey is that my dream can be reached as long as I create a plan to get there, and stick to it. I want my brand to represent just that. I want Noliva Visuals to help light the way for local businesses and help them create a solid social media strategy with awesome visuals that will help them turn their vision, their goal, into a reality.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting Miami I would take them to many hot spots throughout the city! I’d have to say the first would be to grab a bite at a few nice restaurants such as Casa Florida, Sugarcane, Kuba Cabana, and more!
We’d of course have to visit Wynwood Walls, the Perez Art Museum, Design District, Bayside, and South Beach! What I truly love about this city is that you NEVER run out of things to do. There are new events constantly taking place throughout the city.
My personal favorite things to do is attend museums and eat delicious food throughout Miami.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
