We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Sauk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Even when I was a little kid, I would “play business.” I would make plans with my friends for our own babysitters club and I would get excited about new office supplies, so it always felt like this is what I was made to do. When I was in high school I discovered website design, and I fell in love. It’s so nice to have an artistic outlet that also works with the game of marketing a business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Websites are such an incredible tool for businesses and I think most people don’t realize the opportunities they have. Most people think of their website as a necessary business expense, but it should really be like a super cheap employee that works 24/7 to make you money and save you time.
My favorite part about what I get to do is talking to business owners about their marketing strategies, and showing how their website can support them. It’s like a fun puzzle. To figure out exactly how they want to make money, what they want their customers to do when they visit their website, and then guiding the website users on that path.
I don’t think business ownership is easy for anyone, but easy doesn’t mean good. I’ve had a lot of challenges, but it’s been incredibly rewarding and I love what I do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to play pool, and my favorite place to play is Beyond Billiards in Davie. They’ve got a bunch of tables, great music, and really good food.
I really enjoy being outdoors, hanging out at parks and beaches. My favorite beach will always be Hollywood Beach, since that’s where I grew up. I love laying out in the sun for a couple hours and then grabbing a burger and fish dip at Nick’s.
Downtown Hollywood is also a great place to go. There’s a ton of really good restaurants, and fun bars. You should specifically check out The Greek Joint, which is a family owned local restaurant that has been around forever with incredible Greek food, and Mickey Byrne’s which is an Irish Pub where all the locals hang out.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Growing up I didn’t have many connections to business owners, so I didn’t have that built-in network of mentors in the entrepreneurial space. Luckily, as my career progressed, I’ve been able to connect with incredibly impressive and knowledgeable people that I have been able to look to for motivation and advice.
One person who has had a significant impact on my life and career is Steve Fales, who was my boss during my time at AdServices back in high school.
He’s always been generous with his time and wisdom, providing advice and serving as a sounding board for my business plans. Whether I needed guidance on a tough decision or just someone to help me think through a new idea, Steve has always been there. His support has been invaluable.
