We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, how does your business help the community?
I believe that my business helps the community by allowing other small businesses show case their products and hard work. Over the four years I have watched the community grow and build together. We have become a family of support and any new businesses that join Sunny Side Up Market I always tell them they will never feel alone because someone will always help them. Another aspect is forging friendships with visitors that come to the events to support. It was amazing seeing them to catch up on our lives, giving advice and also seeing our dog friends! I love supporting local businesses, even if they are not a part of mine, in any way I possibly can. For instance, a local bakery needed bakers and I shared her flyer. Luckily enough someone saw it and was able to secure a job! I love that I was able to connect them. Hopefully, after my new life change I will continue to help grow local businesses in even more creative ways!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am most proud of the community we have built within the business. It is not easy owning your own business, it takes a leap of faith. At first we all were working multiple jobs and eventually made the decision to quit our jobs to solely focus on Sunny Side Up Market, which was a hard decision to make. With any business are there are ups and downs, but I would say the challenges that are faced with ours primarily are due to outside factors, such as weather plays a significant role, the economic climate, the rising of saturation of the same businesses, and many more. The way to over come these challenges is to keep on going and never give up! One personal challenge I have is that I am a very sensitive and emotional person. I feel horrible for days if the markets do not go well, even though I know I did everything I possibly could do to hopefully make them successful. Our brands mission is to build relationships among local farmers, artisans, and businesses where you can interact directly hoping to set the building blocks for a stronger community. Sunny Side Up Market is a gathering place were families and friends can bond with their neighbors and have a great time while doing so!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a hard question for me because I LOVE so many places. Obviously, I would bring them to any of the Sunny Side Up Markets I was having that week so they are able to check out shopping local, trying out the food, listening to music or yoga! I would take them on the Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi to be able to explore Fort. Lauderdale and learn a little history on the water! Thursday I would take them to Boatyard Ladies Night and Rhythm & Vine! They both have a cool vibe with free drinks for ladies! For brunch I would take them to The Wilder for their fun burlesque brunch show or Shooters Waterfront to have a beautiful view. Happy Hour I would take them to Wine Garden and Surf Sun Sand. We would go to Oleta State Park to go kayaking. I would take them to Ann’s Florist for macaroons,THE BEST espresso martinis and live music. We would stroll las olas boulevard. I would take them to Elbow Room since it is the oldest bar. I could go on and on!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When Sunny Side Up Market was first created there was three of us daring women that executed our dream of a Farmers and Artisans market, as well as, building a community. Since July of 2023 it has just been me. But, Sunny Side Up Market would not be where we are today without Bettina Benizri and Genesis Pedrera. I would love to shout out my family and wonderful boyfriend that have helped me tremendously throughout this time. Also, Mass District initially helped us navigating the market world. Our yoga instructor that has been with us since 2019, Arkell Mokler, has been a light for so many yogis and ourselves! She has built up our yoga community and is always there when we need her.
