We had the good fortune of connecting with Nirlande Battist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nirlande, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Having my own honestly. I’ve worked in the mortgage industry in some capacity most of my adult life, and it hasn’t always been the most dependable. Having been laid off before this started as a backup plan that has turned into something I genuinely love and am passionate about. I strive daily to find ways to make it better and to be better and to help others be better as well.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well I am currently home based nail technician, licensed with the state of Florida. With that I try to make sure I am attentive to each client. I used to hate going to a salon and feeling rushed after spending my hard earned cash. Another big deal for me is sanitation!! Once in school you realize most places arent really following the guidelines that have been put in place to protect the customer. Simple things like changing sanding bands and using a new or sanitized file for each customer. I’ve gotten to this place simply by being persistent and working hard. It isn’t easy especially since I still work a full time job. My passion for this industry and how you can accomplish something different each time keeps me going.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a pretty simple gal. Generally a good brunch or wonderful happy hour make things all fall into place. For a friend in town, first things first we have to catch up. Depending on the time of day drinks and bites sound like the place to start, probably on the Ave in Delray. Spot on the water is usually ideal also like Bennys on the Beach. The following day heading to the spa for a nice massage and facial, usually at Body and Soul Retreat in Ft. Lauderdale.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Fiance, who encourages, supports, and puts up with all my nail antics. My friends who let me practice even when I had no clue what I was doing but trusted me and still support me today.
