We had the good fortune of connecting with Ocean Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ocean, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
The goal has always been balance; and freedom. Balance doesn’t always mean 50/50… it’s about putting in the amount of work you need to and fell comfortable with doing while also enjoying your life.

Over time I’ve done my best to keep a schedule and also be attentive to my clients. in the beginning I was always available, due to the fact that I had little work and low paying clients… I needed to make every dollar I could.

Today I have a schedule that my clients respect, we have work days and work hours, even though things may need to be done on the fly, there are exceptions or that. Other than that work gets done when it needs to.

Balance is important! I remember weeks and months that I was always working on something, and I would burn out. There were also times that I procrastinated and waited til the last minute to get things done, which turned out to be subpar at best and often needed a lot of revisions.

Balance is necessary in Life. Everything exist with balance; everything!!! Without it, it would cease to exist. It’s law… Find your balance and respect it, and work it into your client work ethic, this won’t happen over night but with patience and respect to everyone involved it will happen; I promise.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The message I’d like to most get out there is that the Waves I illustrate are an energy running thru me… I am no special from anyone else… You have the same energy/vibes running thru you! and the way I am able to receive and tap into this energy and display it for everyone to see you can to! I’m not telling you to paint your feelings, I’m telling you to pay attention to yourself and love yourself! Feel the energy, know that it is real, go with the flow and if all else fails, change it! YOU HAVE THE POWER! YOU ARE A SUPERHERO!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Le Sandwicherie (any location), SuViche in Wynwood, Rusty Pelican for Brunch, Design District for Luxury Inspiration, South Beach for Iconic views, Brickell for Upscale Dining & Drinks, ShoeGallery in Downtown Miami is a MUST for Sneakerheads!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My grandfather. He was pivotal in my career as he started my into photography. He showed me his cameras and allowed me to use his to showcase my creativity. At the time I didn’t have an outlet to do this; creatively. He knows his value in my life.
