We had the good fortune of connecting with OJ Gaskin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi OJ, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to have the 1st, and final say on any project I worked on. For example, I started my career in radio years ago thinking that I could create programming for people to listen to. It didn’t take long for me to see that I couldn’t call the shots even if I had a great idea. The program director and the owners of the station decide what the format is and what songs get played. At that point, you either conform to what all the other stations are doing. Or, you create your own and get with like minded people to help it flourish. I chose the latter.

What should our readers know about your business?
Well I’m blessed to have my hands in a few ventures that are directly related. .

JFLOWPRODUCTIONS is where we bring your media ideas to life. That’s my core business. That’s consists of photography, videography, audio recording, editing, content creation, writing, voiceovers, social media management, movies, TV, music videos, documentaries, DIY video’s, and marketing.

Come see what the “R” is all about with Rated R Miami. That consists of the radio and TV station. We help business’s flourish, and help independent artists get their music and music videos seen and heard. You’ll hear engaging and real talk with the topics our hosts bring to the mic on their shows. That’s also the main platform in which the TV, movies, and other content will be broadcasted on.

Then there’s Forever Digital Media Designs putting out incredible digital content for ads, books, social media, business’s, and artists.

Now finally, Decore Galore Miami. That’s where we put together events. From simple to extravagant where we can do everything. Supplying tables, chairs and decorations, as well as hand crafting items for keep sake’s and centerpieces for any and all occasions. No event is too large or too small.

What sets us apart from others is that when you come to us you’re treated like family. There aren’t many places where you can go and get all your entertainment needs met under one roof with Great customer service and great communication. You’re going to feel welcome bringing your projects to us.

I’m proud of myself, my business partners and our employees because a lot of people didn’t think that we could put all of this together. Hard work, and determination is the glue. Dedication, discipline and desire is the process. Stay focused and keep focus. Your only aim should be to keep moving forward.

I’m excited about the projects that will be coming within the next few months to the next few years. When things finally come together because you have the right talent, and the right team. It’s going to be amazing!

I can’t down play at all how hard this was and how hard it still is. My self and my partners got where we’re at because of the sacrifices that were made, the sleepless nights, the long nights, the technical problems and so many other things that went wrong. The good thing is when your work isn’t work and you enjoy what you do those obstacles don’t really stop you they educate you. They make you better.

Now, something’s you have to keep in mind as you’re climbing up your path to success. Is to ALWAYS do good business. Don’t come out here with a business and your scamming people, you take their money but you never do the work or you never supply them with the service that you promised. Your word is your bond them with. If you start right you’ll stay right.

Next, NEVER short change yourself! Whatever you do that you’re good at, You have to remember the time you put in and the money you spent. It doesn’t matter if you were going to school to learn, or if you put in thousands of hours just learning how to do things on your own through trial and error. That sweat, that work, IS WORTH SOMETHING! You become great because you worked at something! Whatever your price is for the services you provide l, especially if your quality of work is on par with other greats! STICK TO YOUR GUNS ON YOUR PRICE!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend that was visiting Miami. They’d need a vacation from the vacation. There is so much to do in Miami. Of course hit the malls for some shopping. Aventura, Mall off the Americas, maybe even Bayside, We’ll also hit some of the smaller plaza’s like in Carol City. Yeah I know it’s Miami Gardens now, but to me it’s still Carol City. They can Shop till they drop regardless.

Next up, we gotta eat but I don’t even know if I’d take them to the normal joints that other visitors go to. I’m more on a small, mom and pop type vibe spot to eat at. So for me that’s Sylvia’s to get that lunch special. Northeast seafood for some conch, fish, and shrimp. Both of those are on 27th Ave. Hit up Sundays off 207th and get some of trick daddy fried ribs. Maybe Slide through one of Chef Creole spots for a lil Haitian food.

We know what comes next. Everybody wants to club and drink. I DON’T DO EITHER ANYMORE (laughing) so I’d keep that simple and just take them to Fat Tuesdays at bayside, or maybe even simpler. They can get their own bottles from the local liquor store.

I’d have to see if their talking about clubs, or strip clubs. Once again. I DON’T DO EITHER (laughing) So as for strip cubs simple is the play. Take them to the Lexx or climax whatever it is these days, Maybe the mint, the office, tootsies, or club 11.

Ok, Night clubs where they can get their dance on? That’s tough for me as well. Maybe Krave, Brick, Never mind I’ll tell you what we’ll do. We’ll just ride down South beach. They can point at a spot and we’ll just go there.Listen down here their going to have fun no matter where we’re at.

Other than that. If there’s a concert, an event, or the dolphins, or the heat play, we could hit that up. Maybe a local comedy show, spoken word, or an open mic.

For me, I’m more of a relax and just chill person now. I love what I do, but even with that you still gotta get away from it and recharge. So I can just go to any one of the beaches from Virginia key, Haulover, South beach whatever and just watch and listen to the water and waves. Get some snacks build moats and sandcastles with my family. Hey if all else fails we can google whatever they want to do!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife Holly Stack’s. She pushes me more than anyone. She’s always had my back. She’s always believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. My business partners for keeping things going no matter what obstacles we had. The Indy artists for letting us break their music. My show unsigned heat would exist without them.
