We had the good fortune of connecting with Ojette Bonhomme and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ojette, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first started Love Speaks, it was simply suppose to be a passion project. A platform to share individual testimonies and allow those going through trying times a space to feel comforted and know that they are not alone. In my mind, if at least one person could be inspired by one of our stories, then I had done a good job.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Love Speaks is a project focused on emotional health — a space where people can see that they are not alone when it comes to the trials life brings. Love Speaks is curated to help individuals share their stories about healing. I look back and I am so proud of myself for coming out of my comfort zone to create space for others to come out of their comfort zone as well. It’s a growing process for everyone involved and truly it is a blessing to witness. In 2017, I tried to do this, but I had no feedback. Only one of my friends Angella talked to me about it. So I got discouraged and let it fade away. Then in 2019, three people that I was extremely close to started battling depression (2 which were clinically diagnosed). At this point, I knew I had to do something. It was then did I have the idea to create a platform that would not only provide testimonies and a place to share life experiences, but a space for us to understand the emotions and thoughts of those who maybe going through similar situations. Through Love Speaks, I have have learned so much about the psychology and sociology aspect behind humans behaviors due to their experiences. It is my hope that my brand would remind people around the world that although life may feel lonely sometimes, you are not alone.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Where do I begin? God really tugged this project out of me, but what’s even more amazing is the people he placed along the way to help me execute this project. Shout out to Yohanna and Gerald Law for being the first people to hear about the project and truly helping me turn my thoughts into a reality day in and day out. Shout out to Linda Jean Pierre and Jules Orange for listening to my thoughts and ideas! They hype me up when the idea is good, and tell me “that’s not it sis!” when it needs more work. Shout out to my siblings for supporting me (special shout to my brother Dr. Idler Bonhomme for planting a seed and investing in my dream, when I myself was not sure what this would turn out to be). To Bianca, Jayla, Twan, Kiandra, Kenia, Shae, Dayana, Margerette, Felix, Luc, and everyone who will interview with us. Thank you for being vulnerable and transparent. It takes a lot to share personal experiences and we appreciate you for your authenticity. Love Speaks would not be where it’s at right now without you. To those who have purchased a candle, shared content, or shared our platform with friends and family. Thank you. We see you and we truly appreciate you. To my counselor, Lourdes Canovas, thank you for helping me see myself again. Last but definitely not least, to my parents Joseph and Denise. Thank you for listening to me come up with this wild idea and immediately wanting to be apart of it. Thank you for helping me keep up with inventory. Thank you for the encouraging words. Thank you for loving me the way you do. Thank you for being the best parent a child could ask for. Without you modeling it, I would not know how to speak LOVE!
