We had the good fortune of connecting with Oyuki Segura and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Oyuki, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Millys Custom started because of my father. I was make shift planning events for co workers. Like their bridal/ bachorlette parties. Id help them book their event space etc but the main thing that I would do is their custom gifts such as group shirts, cups all that fun stuff. It was just for fun and my dad really pushed me to start the business because he was going to retire soon and wanted to stay busy. Now the thought process is in the 5 year plan is to be the household name for custom gifts. I’d love to have a store front in Miami. Milly’s custom is here to turn normal items into a great memory.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was very lucky as a child and young adult to be in very creative spaces. I played the violin and was in art. The arts were very important in my household and my parents were always proud even if it didn’t look that great. I’m most proud of how i’ve put a Miami flare to my designs. we do a lot of custom orders for events and family reunions and bring the idea to life is the best part! I overcame many challenges a I have no business background and work in the criminal justice space “by day”. I had to watch a lot of webinars, I worked with coaches to learn and attended many workshops to get into the wedding space to learn and understand. I’ve learned you’re the only one who is going to fight for your brand and business. If you don’t work your brand is not going to grow especially as a small business. I want people to know we are family built and want you to feel welcomed into ours. Our story is very different from other brands in this space, since i lost my father i take these special events and moments so personal. We want your ideas and visions to come to life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend ( friends in low places Y’all know who you are ) were coming to Miami we would 1 million percent to heading to the beach for at least a whole day.but before we head to the beach we’d need some snacks so a pit stop at La Carreta for sure! Miami beach and The city of Miami is just a vibe, we’d more then likely be hitting up food trucks all around town, since were all self proclaimed foodies! We’d be nerdy and go to a National park and take a hike we do this on every girls trips and its the best way to see a new place and act like a tourist in your own city. With Covid it’d be hard to go to a sporting event ( marlins fans fa life!) but we are all huge sport fans (GO NOLES! we’re all alumna) so if they are playing we’d be in the stands. p.s- Robert is here & Knaus berry farm is always on the list too !

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
MY MOM! my mother has been the backbone, although this was a father daughter duo. When my dad passed away my mom stepped up and reminded me that I could keep this business going. I want her to retire and not have a worry in the world. We have a collection coming out just on her and how inspiring she is to our family.
