We had the good fortune of connecting with Parker Sloan Leiro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Parker, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I’ve always been someone who gets all my work done, tries to make everyone happy, and check all the marks — even if the work didn’t fully align and if I felt burnt out by it. Fortunately I’ve always prioritized sleep and nourishing meals, but there was a more intrinsic part of me that wasn’t balanced.
Being a young adult, recently out of school and very much “doing things for myself” right now, I recognize that true balance comes from feeling fully aligned with and inspired by anything that I choose to put my energy toward. To not just do things to make others happy, even the small stuff. Life’s just too short to do things that you feel resistance toward. Love who you’re working with, love what you’re working on, or question why you don’t feel this way and reassess. This mindset has created an even greater amount of respect for me from myself and from others.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Yoga Instructor and a Wellness Coach. I like to say that I have one of the most fun yoga instructing jobs I could have never dreamt of. I’ve had the chance to teach personal sessions for people, intimate groups, exciting events all around Miami, and for communities of 200 + people. I’m also extremely passionate about holistic living and helping others find the synergism between mindful eating, mindful movement, and mindful thinking. It’s hard to go wrong when you’ve got these three things! My main goal is to help others recognize their true potential through this synergism, helping them to be their healthiest, happiest, truest selves. I do this through personal coaching and by sharing fun, engaging content online through Instagram (and soon on my upcoming blog!).
What I’d want people to know…is that there is no light without the dark, and vice versa. Yin and yang, baby. Oftentimes, the people who look healthiest and happiest have have had to go through their own struggles and where they are at now is a reflection of that — and they are probably still working through it all. I’ve dealt with chronic anxiety, major imposter syndrome, my own plethora of health imbalances, and have done major intrinsic work to understand myself, rewire my thoughts, and translate my personal struggles into understanding others better. Every challenge is a teacher in disguise, and I’m grateful for all the lessons!
What people should know about my brand? I am constantly evolving, especially in this stage of my life. The Rolling Sloan will look much different a year from now, so stay tuned for lots of fun things to come 🙂
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Starting with restaurants, I’d make sure we hit the essentials. We’re definitely having dinner at NIU Kitchen, Call Me Gaby, and Stubborn Seed. A couple of brunch days call for PLANTA , Pura Vida, and Le Pain Quotidein, and we’ll have to hit Atchana’s in the Grove one day for lunch, too. If we need to get some work done we’re heading to Vice City Bean, Bebito’s, or Delicious Raw (they’ve got the best Golden Milk in town). I’d have to take them to the Frost Museum of Science and PAMM (I just love museum visits). Catching the sunrise by South Pointe Pier is a must, with quick stops at Under the Mango Tree afterward. I’d also make sure to take them to South Pointe Park on Wednesday or Sunday at sunset to hang out with the acro yogis, slack liners and vibrant crowd that gathers there those days.
Our weekend will 100% consist of going to the Coconut Grove Farmer’s Market, walking around the grove, and then hitting 420 Space Yoga in the afternoon. And if there’s a great artist playing at Floyd or Club Space, we’ll go there, too. This, to me, is the perfect Saturday!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Man, so many people have supported me along this journey. I wouldn’t have the independent mindset that I do if my dad didn’t tell me to only work for myself since I was a little girl. People like Tiffany Levy and the whole team at 420 Space Yoga have truly “seen” me since before I could see myself. My partner Andres has supported me in countless ways, as a best friend, boyfriend and mentor. To every single person who’s supported me online and in my classes, you mean the world to me and I can’t wait to keep sharing more with you. Thank you for wanting to be better for you, and for others.
If you’re looking for some deep inspiration in following your dreams, I’ve read and re-read The Alchemist and can’t recommend it enough.
