We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrice J White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patrice J, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process came from my own journey – the path of becoming the best version of myself. After giving birth to my daughter I struggled with losing weight and confidence issue because of my weight for the 1st 12 years of her life. In 2015 after doing most of the yoyo diets that exist and mainly focusing on a number on the scale, I took a different approach to weightloss. This approach of no longer being scale driven but now goal focus not only led to me moving from 210lbs to 135lbs but also led to the birth of The Dynamic Lifestyle and me becoming a personal trainer.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

As someone who once struggled with losing weight, I went through a lot of insecurities and depression about how I looked and also how I felt. I tried every fad diet, did liposuction, all the quick fix plans. They worked, but only for a little while. I’d lose the weight but it would just keep coming back.

IN 2015, SOMETHING CHANGED. I STARTED TO FOCUS ON MY MIND FIRST, INSTEAD OF MY BODY. AND THAT MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

My lifestyle changed completely. Instead of trying to be skinny, I got healthy. I worked on improving my mental and emotional health, on eating right and making exercise an important part of my life. That’s when the weight came off and stayed off. And that’s when I knew that helping people like me is what I was meant to do.

As a part of my personal fitness journey, I became an avid runner and began competing in marathons. This challenged me to keep pursuing new goals and kept me driven and motivated.

I’VE COMPETED 21 MARATHONS AND SPARTAN RACES ACROSS THE USA, CANADA, GERMANY, FRANCE, ITALY, THE UK & SINGAPORE.

Even when not competing, I find ways to challenge myself and push my limits. To celebrate my 38th birthday, I ran 380 miles in one month. For my 39th birthday, I ran 39 miles in a single night.

My mind keeps finding creative new barriers because I know deep down that I am strong enough to break them. That is why I preach that fitness isn’t just physical – it’s about having the mental strength to push through when your body feels like quitting.

I started my business, The Dynamic Lifestyle in 2016 where I use these same principles and framework to help individuals to become the best version of themselves – physically, mentally and emotionally. This allows them to become more goal results driven vs being consumed by a number on the scale.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting Jamaica I would introduce them to my favorite local spots.

Kingston
Devon House for the famous Devon House Beef Patty and their Rum & Raisin Ice Cream

For a glass of wine or cocktail I would take them to The Regency Bar at Terra Nova Hotel or The AC Hotel

For Sunday Brunch Strawberry Hills in Irish Town with the most amazing view of Kingston

Lunch spot any day of the week could be Uncorked Too in the Super Value Centre which is also a great spot for a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.

For a beach trip definitely Puerto Seco Beach in Discovery Bay – a cabana rental is essential or spend the weekend at Destiny Villa in Montego Bay – a premium all-inclusive high-end villa experience – once their you never need to leave the property.

The Houseboat Grill in Montego Bay – which is literally a house on a boat in the Caribbean Sea – that is also a fine dining restaurant experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My daughter Makayla McHugh. Because of her I thrive daily to become the woman I am, the best version of myself. I’m not from a close knit family, the product of a teenage mother who wanted to abort me which led to us not having a relationship, so when I got pregnant with my daughter I knew I had to break that generation curse.

The Lord blessed me with the opportunity of having what a real mother/daughter relationship is/should be with my 19yo so I decided that whatever struggles blows life throw my way she should see me navigating it the best way possible so when she goes out on her own to tackle life, she can say she had the best footprints to follow.

I drive to be successful in everything I do because of her and by doing that I now realize even with her own studies, her own small business she is detailed oriented and focused on being her own success story because of those same footprints she’s told me she’s following.
