We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Contreras Romero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patricia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Being discipline, consistent, creative, and thinking outside the box. Having passion for what you do and as cheesy as it sounds LOVEING it.. This is like my baby and I have to nurture my business in that same mind set,.. No one is going to take care of or want the best for my business but me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I never knew I had it in me to be creative.. When we decide to purchase Mermaid it was going to be a Sister Duo Team. My Sister and her family were moving down from California. My sister was the creative one who was also going to be in charge of the labor part. I was going to handle Marketing and the administrative part of the business. 9 months into our journey. My sister & her family decide to go back to California.. I honestly thought about closing operations but we had a loan over our heads when we purchased the business that had to be paid back.. The scariest part was figuring out designs and what looked elegant and romantic. I would see ideas on Pinterest, but I had also figure out how to make them into reality. Not only did they have to look pretty but they also had to withstand the weather on the beach. Winds, rain etc..
With my husband we would design and try different ideas out and actually some of our designs have been decoration favorites like the Guiselle and Driftwood love. I honestly would surprise myself.. I guess my passion and love for what I do overcame it all.
I remember hearing a quote once from Eleanor Roosevelt (A women is like a Tea Bag. You don’t know how truly strong she is until you put her in hot water) Definitely those words would ring in my head..
I love what I do and it shows.. Each wedding is special. A one time affair.. It must be perfect..
We are definitely all about qualify instead of quantity.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fort Lauderdale is amazing.. The beaches are pristine.. A must is a drive down A1A.. Not many places in South Florida can you drive along the beach.. Some sun bathing is a must at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park. Lunch at Bo’s Beach Shack and a snack along the A1A and ocean.. Dinner definitely on Las Olas. There is every type of restaurant to chose from. I love using the Water Taxi’s to impress my friends. They take you all over and you get to enjoy the scenery from the intercoastal.. Drinks definitely on Himmarshee Street.. Two blocks side to side of different type of Music Vibe. From Mini bars to large lounges where you can dance and drink the night away.
There are Gondola rides and the Jungle Queen tours off the Intercostals with shows and everything to impress out of State guests..
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my family. My parents whom came to this country and instilled the mind set. With goals, dreams and hard work everything is possible. My sister, daughter & son who have supported me with either labor, photography or technology. My husband who is by my side no matter what. The muscles of my operation and an even bigger perfectionist then me. The photographers, officiants, set up team, musicians who all share in the vision.
I am able to do what I do, thanks to all the above.
