We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Duch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patricia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My father told me… “When you grow up, you should be your own boss, make sure you have a solid idea that you are passionate about, work on it and that way you will grow, succeed and enjoy being your own boss.” He also told me..”Never work for another person or company, be your only boss even if you have to stand at the corner of the traffic light and sell flowers”.

I followed my father’s advice and started my own party decoration business in my home country of Asunción, Paraguay in 1994. Being an entrepreneur is more than just owning a business; it is a perspective and a lifestyle. As an entrepreneur, I am free to pursue my passion and be in control of my life, it taught me that you can work as hard as you can and make as much money as you want!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an international event planner, I help my clients plan parties, weddings, conventions, fashion shows and other social events, coordinating details, making arrangements with contractors and making sure everything goes smoothly on the day of the event. I work 40+ hours per week, multitasking to help my clients have a successful event.

As a floral designer I have the creative imagination and artistic skill in color matching, using my sense of style to develop aesthetically pleasing designs. What makes me unique is my ability to easily empathize with and relate to people.

Getting to where I am today is the result of a lot of preparation, resilience, hard work, learning from failure, trying something multiple times without giving up. One thing I learned owning my own business is that failure is not the end of everything, but rather the opportunity for a new beginning.

I would like to introduce my new Eco-friendly and sustainable floral business Black Cat Florist. I buy my flowers from sustainably-Certified farms around the globe, for wedding arrangements I use Oasis Bio Foam which can biodegrade up to 91% in 1100 days without compromising performance. I don’t use chemical bucket cleaners, floral moisturizers, finishing sprays, spray paints, or tons of other chemicals used in traditional florist. I wrap flowers in paper, rather than plastic.

The human being has degraded natural resources in such a way that now it is necessary to become aware of saving the planet and make the effort to become ecological, now is the perfect time to incorporate sustainable practices in our companies. Making my flower business fully sustainable is good for our planet and will also help set my business apart from other florists.

You will also help the planet buying from my flower shop.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I thank the creator of the Universe for his guidance. The books and videos about the law of attraction that have helped me a lot to manifest.

My brother Alejandro was a great support when things weren’t going the way I wanted. He always encouraged me to continue saying that businesses take time and require patience, but if at the end of the month I covered the business and personal expenses, even if I ended up with a dollar in my pocket, the business was worth it.

I also appreciate the support of my mother and my children at all times.
