We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Laurenceau Jean-Louis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patricia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
If truth be told I can’t truly say that I never pursued an artistic or creative career. What I will say is that it choose me. I spent 15 years in the legal field with an intention of going to law school. I always saw myself as a logical thinker who always paid attention to details. Creative and artistic abilities were for those who were born with the ability. Definitely not me. I never really saw myself as artistic or creative. When I started in the field of graphic design it was to create marketing collaterals for another business that I had at the time. As I was creating flyers, business cards, and brochures and marketed my previous business people started asking me who was creating my materials for me. As a result, I saw the opportunity to provide graphic design services to other small businesses and started charging for my services. Shortly after website design and development was a natural progression. Now, Laurenceau Design Studio is a full-service design and marketing agency.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started Laurenceau Design Studio, LLC when I was on maternity leave with my second child from my full-time job as an office manager of a law firm in Miami, Florida. Being a mom of two small children and birthing this vision has been nothing short of amazing. Starting a business can be challenging at times but the rewards certainly outway the challenges. When I started out my focus was to provide great service that was innovative, creative, and inspiring with the goal of maintaining repeat customers. That continues to be the core foundation of Laurenceau Design Studio. I enjoy working with other entrepreneurs and helping them develop their own brands and they birth their vision because I was once where they are and I love bringing their vision to life. As an entrepreneur, I can’t dismiss the fact that the financial benefits are also very rewarding. It wasn’t like that in the beginning, however, as I remained consistent and continued to work hard more and more opportunities began to open up. Aside from the financial rewards, the flexibility with my time is what I wouldn’t trade for anything. My kids and my business grew at the same time. My kids never saw me work a regular 9 to 5. All they know is mommy is an entrepreneur running her own business. Being able to take them to school in the morning, pick them up after school, and be able to make money on my own terms is the best feeling in the world.
My kids are the ones that inspire me to keep pushing forward and to never give up. My parents are also an inspiration to me because they were both immigrants from Haiti who came to the United States with hope and a dream. To see all they have accomplished with their resilience to learn a new language and navigate in an environment that was foreign to them has been a source of inspiration my entire life.
That inspiration is what I bring to Laurenceau Design Studio every day. Our focus is truly our clients. Even though we specialize in creating and executing digital solutions that are innovative, creative, and inspiring, and provide creative website and graphic design services to small businesses. Our goal is to work closely with business owners and organizations in need of an effective online presence by strategically creating websites and using modern technology to grow their businesses. We help plan, design, deliver and manage small businesses online. Laurenceau Design Studio helps small businesses navigate through the overflow of information and create a strategic plan of action to launch and grow a small businesses.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Miami, Florida is one of the best vacation spots. For a week-long vacation, we would start the trip with dinner at Joe’s Stone Crab Restaurant on Miami Beach. Joe’s Stone Crab has the best crab cakes, stone crabs, and key lime pie. The next day we would definitely hit the cabana at the Hard Rock Guitar Hotel in Hollywood and later have lunch at Kuro for some Japanese-style cuisine and Council Oak Steak & Seafood for dinner. The next day we would spend the day at Ft. Lauderdale Beach enjoying the sun. We can definitely plan to see a show at the Adrienne Arsht Center and site seeing at Bayside Miami. One of my favorite spots to visit is the Best U Now Spa for a day of pampering and relaxation. This trip to Miami will be an unforgettable trip.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents. Both my mom and dad, Rene and Rose Marie Laurenceau are the reasons I am who I am today. My parents are first-generation immigrants from Port Au Prince, Haiti. They left Haiti during a very turbulent political climate in Haiti and migrated to the United States for a better life and opportunity for themselves and their family. Despite language barriers, limited finances, and culture to adjust to my parents had a dream that they envisioned for their lives that with tenacity they pursued relentlessly. No matter what life threw at them in their journey they kept moving forward towards their goals. My parents saw the very best in me and always celebrated that. That was the motivation and encouragement I needed in my own journey.
