We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Anthony Senior and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patrick Anthony, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Back in high school between the years of 2001 and especially as I neared graduation closer to 2005(wherein the thought itself of needing to decide what to do with my life &/or what college university I may have wanted to attend was at the forefront of focus & discussion), I thought to myself, “I want to prove to my parents & everyone else, that I didn’t need a piece of paper(a bachelors/masters degree) to be successful in career & life.”

I knew that I possessed the potential of becoming wildly successful- having a thriving business, employing & providing jobs for persons within my community, attaining financial freedom and most importantly freedom of time to do what I please when I please.

The overall arching idea of this grew inside of me so strongly that I knew by way of intiution, spirit, universe and/or God that I had to become a business entrepreneur; there was no other option. So even if i didn’t initially know what I wanted to do when first starting out…I knew I just had to start; and that’s what I did.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Orange Lab Media(OLM) is a service-disabled, veteran-owned marketing laboratory(agency). We have over 40 years of combined experience in company eStores, promotional products, print media, branded apparel, digital marketing, advertising, web technologies, administrative support, project management & consulting services.

Our clients which we are most proud of include organizations such as the Dept. of Justice, Dept. of Veterans Affairs, Dept. of the Air Force, General Service Administration, Broward County Sheriff’s, Bristol Myers Squibb, Amgen, Biogen, Starbucks, Mary Kay, Seminole Hard Rock, TD Bank, Broward County(FL) and Sarasota County(FL) to name a few. We are special because we are a marketing agency without the additional fees and we function as an addition to a company’s staff without the added payroll. Our customers also give us the highest marks in trust, integrity, and confidentiality.

We are where we are today by being willing to remain nimble, agile and adaptive as well as by focusing on core services we excelled at. The journey certainly wasn’t easy during the first several years, however, after streamlining our business service offerings & our internal systems & processes along with leveraging our supporting networks, we have been able to reach a level of sustainable business operations; and are well on our way to shifting that to thriving.

If there is one thing I would like the world to know about our brand story is that, we started from very humble beginnings- my business partner’s father-in-law’s dining table. We were two African-American men with no prior knowledge or access to resources pertaining to business entrepreneurship & business development. We had no one in our families that started businesses that we could lean on for advice and expertise. Everything we attempted, succeeded &/or failed at was by way of us simply trying, doing and figuring it out along the way. Through sheer perseveration and grit, we were able to overcome set back after set back, obstacle after obstacle. Today, we work with some of the largest global brands, own and operate a 7-figure organization.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend of mine was visiting Fort Lauderdale/Miami I would take them to see and do the following:

*Fort Lauderdale*
– Fort Lauderdale Beach & ‘The Strip’
– Rooftop Fort Lauderdale
– The Wharf Fort Lauderdale
– Pizza Craft(for some bomb ass vegan pizza)
– Sobe Vegan
– & obviously my office our Orange Lab Media HQ(down town Ft. Lauderdale)

*Miami*
– Wet Willies(South Beach staple)
– Gianni’s at Versace Manion
– Wynwood(for a ton of fast casual dining xp’s and art)
– Nikki Beach(for South Beach brunch vibes)
– Catamaran Miami Beach Tour
– LiV Miami, E11EVEN & other nightclubs

The list can go on haha…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s possible we all know or at least have heard in passing the quote “you’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” For me and when it comes to consciously choosing a life by design, I see to surround myself with others directly and indirectly(books, podcasts, seminars) that are in alignment with my personal development and overall purpose in life. I wouldn’t be where I am at today if it weren’t for the following people, books, mentors etc.

First, I’d like to recognize my business partner, Keel Russell. Without him, I definitely do not think I’d be at the level in which I am today. He has always pushed, challenged & inspired me and has called me forth towards my greatness by holding me high & accountable all at rates greater than I would have possibly accessed on my own. He is an integral part in my life’s story and is a huge reason why our company Orange Lab Media is as successful as it is.
