We had the good fortune of connecting with Paty Renda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paty, what principle do you value most?
In over 20 years of teaching yoga and other wellness modalities, I have witnessed a huge change in what once was a small and lively community into a blossoming business that has turned yoga, an ancient tool, into an exercise modality and a way to make money. I was blessed with amazing teachers that have shown me the integrity and value behind the practice and that yoga is more of a lifestyle – that has nothing to do with click words and fashion – than just a fitness trend. Integrity over profit is what I value the most, since I have seen what the latter does to the former and in that we ended up loosing what is most important in yoga which is the work we do within and the ways in which we choose to live.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I find that all we do with our heart can be considered art. If I teach yoga focused on kindness, grace and the joy of self discovery, providing each student with a safe space to create their own posture, we are generating loving moments of self expression together. I find that if I write words from the heart and publish them, almost unedited, I am offering a piece of my heart to all. I absolutely love to connect deeply with others and to offer all the tools I have learned so they can pick what they need to self improve and I am always excited to do so. The path so far has been one of ups and downs and in that I learned not only my own strength and perseverance but I also learned about my self and what I really wanted to become. Life in general can be considered hard and the path we choose will always offer challenges but the moment I decided to see that life is always happening for me and not to me, each hard day became a blessing in disguise through the awareness of redirection and the joy of what could be next. I trully wish the world could see such thing, understand that life is on us, that we choose to stay and suffer, to move on and redirect, we choose to live with joy or to become victims, that we have this endless amount of learning opportunities and all we have to do is trust.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d be taking them to nature, we have so much of that around! Beautiful beaches, beautiful parks, beautiful sunsets! I’d be taking them to some of the delicious small businesses I go to, a family owned coffee shop nearby, an Indian restaurant that has been around for a very long time, a delicious vegan restaurant owned by my friends. I like to be close to my community, to the people who work hard and with integrity, to the businesses that are created with love.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Sacred Form yoga, owned by Kaitlyn Ferrer. She is really bringing back the community aspect of yoga as well as the oeacefulness behind the practice.
