We had the good fortune of connecting with Paulo Gago and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paulo, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The amout of work needed and the freedom and capacity of the mind to create, its not just paint in the canvas, theres a more intimate, deep and personal part in creation. The mind must be free and also free of worries, stress, schedules…etc, free of all that can exaust your brain.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Im confident about my work, i like to transmit people, the feeling i have in each painting. Our eyes catch light, everything about seeing works on the base of light, i like working with light. Its a constant discovery cause its not always easy to show what i see or how i see it. I get lots of influence of photographers and try to discover how light and reflections work by myself also, so i can work and put on the canvas the real thing. Its an experiment at the same time as exploring art and myself.
For my growing artistic process, theres a time where some kind of organizacion is needed, luckly im good enough with math, so i can manage myself or else would be very dificult the aspect of organizing exhibitions, wich works are at what gallery, etc etc…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For sure its needed lots of effort and time, lots of communication with several people, entities. Cant let you go down because of a no, need always to be confident and find a way to follow through, most of the times its in your head! Organize, reorganize, create, experiment, talk, live, feel…than go back to the paints and canvas and put it all there. Take time when needed, clear your head, and do it all again and again….take it to the next level always…
