We had the good fortune of connecting with Payal Tak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Payal, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk and reward goes hand in hand. I strongly believe that when we take risks to experiment or try something new, we allow ourselves to learn and grow. Taking risks gives us an opportunity to become bigger, better, bolder individuals, and it boosts our confidence. Owning an Art Gallery is my second career; the first being an intensely active 30-year career in Information Technology. That career taught me that taking risks is almost essential if one wants to progress. Regardless of the outcome of the risky endeavors, each taught me a meaningful lesson that I have leveraged to keep growing as a person.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For over three decades, I haves relied heavily on creating art as my go-to activity at the end of the day to re-energize. I have worked with acrylics, oil paints, and mixed media, and have settled in on acrylics as my favorite. At a stage of life that has allowed me to devote all my time to Art, I have embraced the opportunity to share my creations from over thirty years and many of my new works with art lovers. Always eager to experiment and willing to explore, I am putting all my creative energy in discovering the unknown. A blank canvas is the most attractive playing field. Larger the canvas, more energizing it is. I am self-taught and have been fascinated with concentric circles; geometric patterns; monochromatic themes; crazy brush strokes; medley of colors; mish-mash of media, and so much more! I am excited about life. I like to use bright vibrant colors. They are happy and vivacious. They energize my visual experience. I don’t hold back on using a particular color and think whether it would “look nice” or not.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
x Miami has so much to offer visitors. It is a unique melting pot of cuisines from all over the world available at fabulous restaurants; tons of art galleries and museums; music; the blue ocean; and abundance of sunshine. How can one get bored in such a place! I would show-off Miami and put a lot of fun places on the itinerary which I find fun, exciting, and very interesting: South Beach for food, drinks, sunshine; Perez Museum; Little Havana food tour; a day trip to Key West; Visit Design District; Lucid Art Gallery 🙂 in Design District; DeLa Cruz Museum; Miami Institute of Contemporary Art; Rubell Museum; Walls of Wynwood to see some extraordinary art; Everglades; Jet Ski or another water sport….the list is rather long!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
x No bird soars too high on its own wings. I too, cannot claim the sole credit for my phenomenal journey that has led me to now own my art gallery – Lucid. In my 3 decade long IT career before establishing Lucid, my colleagues and team made me soar; at home, my family stood by me as I ventured into unknown waters; and at the end of the day, my art studio gave me the ultimate joy of creating art. I couldn’t be more grateful to life for allowing me to perpetually be surrounded by supporting people and activities that have kept me grounded while allowing me to fly at the same time. My journey in exploring the magic of colors started over 3 decades ago and runs parallel with a career in information technology. So, my shoutout goes to many wonderful people from my IT career, my family, and the rainbow of colors.

Second photograph is one of Payal’s Weave paintings. A 48″x48″ acrylic painting where thousands of fine acrylic lines come together as if to say that while a single voice may not be heard, collectively we can make an impact; so we must stand united. Third painting is a 36″x48″ acrylic from Payal’s “Carnival” series. The message of this series is to urge the human race to peacefully co-exist on this earth, just like a medley of colors is peacefully co-existing on a single canvas.
