We had the good fortune of connecting with Pedro Camacho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pedro, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a productive person, who thrives when I am most busy, I enjoy cultivating hobbies that are both enjoyable and have practical applications in my life. My apothecary started as just an idea, to bring a store to life that encompassed natural products and homemade goods, with an artisanal twist. It was at that intersection that I decided to take a leap and build a brand doing not only what I enjoyed but could also be a profitable pastime while bringing a bit of old charm to a saturated commercial market.
What should our readers know about your business?
All my life my family has subscribed to the idea that, the old ways of self care were best. Whether I was using homegrown sage to clear unwanted energy, or just soaking in a lavender oil and rose bath to unwind after a rough day. Natural remedies always gave me the inner peace I was seeking without having to worry about the list of side effects that come with pharmaceutical or lab created products. In creating My Apothecary I wanted to call back to a simpler time, a time where people knew where each ingredient they put in or on their body came from; a source they trusted with their well being. Being an entrepreneur with experience in building a brand but new to the Beauty and Health field, I wanted to make sure I had a strong base to build on. Over a few months of consulting with fellow craftsmen, researching the benefits of ingredients found in nature, and late nights testing my own formulas, I slowly but surely found my groove and started to experiment with unique and exciting products and combinations, ranging from men’s beard oil and hair pomade to exciting and invigorating scents for whipped and bar soaps, body butters and aromatherapy candles. The process has definitely had breakthrough and set backs, but I can’t wait to share our products with the world and have people fall in love with alternatives to their everyday self care needs. The world should always remember that it’s never to late to have a fresh start, and the best of tomorrow was planted yesterday.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Miami is a cultural, artistic, diverse architectural and enticing melting pot. Where everyone is welcomed and anything is fair game….Where else can you get a croquetas and Cuban coffee for cents on the dollar in little Havana, undoubtedly the soul of our beautiful city. (If you haven’t been to Versailles you are missing out) then pop over to the skyscraper filled heart in Brickell for an unforgettable and truly Miami lunch or dinner at Dolores Lolitas (try the Angus Churrasco, it’s life changing) but one things for sure if your visiting me…..we.are. BRUNCHING! My go to is Bulla Gastrobar with their bottomless mimosas and sangria on a hot day are…perfection. After a savory day, a stroll thru Brickell city center if were feeling “Cache” or a visit to Vizcaya for some historic and iconic sightseeing. There so much to do, it’s like 10 cities in one depending on the vibe your looking for, with inspiration around every corner. Come visit!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I couldn’t agree more, the sweetest successes are based in love and support. I have always found that support in my roots, My Abuela, at 92, you will not find a more determined and dedicated woman, she encourages me to chase my dreams and never forget where I came from. Along with my friends and family I am truly blessed. An inspiration familiar to any one who has watched the show Schitt’s creek can probably guess that some of it came from Daniel Levy’s character, David Rose, on Schitt’s creek, undoubtedly one of TVs funniest and warmest LGBTQ+ personalities. I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t watched it (but seriously why haven’t you) but he definitely finds the best version of himself in a place he never thought he would by chasing a dream, and learning its o.k to make mistakes, if they smell like lavender 😉
