We had the good fortune of connecting with Penelope Gomes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Penelope, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks marks a change in you, many times we are victorious by taking risks and sometimes things do not turn out as expected. But it is always better to say try. In my case, I take the risk of emigrating to the United States and founding my own company, which today makes me immensely happy to have done so.

What was your thought process behind starting your own business?
What prompted me to create my own business in the foreground is the love for what I do, being able to help other people with my knowledge and having control of my time.

What is one thing about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One of the things within the construction and remodeling industry that perhaps many do not know is the previous time that is dedicated to each project before its execution.

What is the most important factor behind your success / the success of your brand?
Am1 project is characterized by being a company where the value of responsibility is at the forefront, personalizing the relationship with the client is another key feature in my work. I think that without a doubt this combined with the dedication and effort has achieved the success of the Am1 project.

What is the most difficult decision you have ever had to make?
Leaving my country was difficult at first, but today I am very happy to be here, enjoying the process and being able to contribute all my efforts and that of my work team to this beautiful land.

Work life balance: how has your balance changed over time? How do you think about the balance?
This point is a bit controversial, because many times we think that as business owners we are going to have more time, but the reality is that it never stops. I think that balance is important, but there are times when it is difficult to maintain it in order to meet project deadlines.

Do you have a favorite quote or affirmation? What does it mean to you / what do you like about it?
If the plan doesn’t work change the plan but don’t change the goal

What did you pursue and artistic or creative career?
I chose a creative career (civil engineering) because I like to create, design, think and find solutions.

What do you want your legacy to be? What do you want people to remember about you?
I want people to remember me as a professional who gives everything in her projects, a mother who guides her daughters with good principles and a wife who is a firm support for her partner.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had my best friend visiting, I would take her to the beach, to walk around the city, I would have a good barbecue and long nights of conversation.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to first of all thank God, my family and each of the people who have given me the opportunity and trusted me as a professional, thanks to them I am who I am today
