We had the good fortune of connecting with Petra Haven and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Petra, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Nassau, The Bahamas but moved to Miami, Florida as a teenager. I spent a lot of my developmental years in Florida even though every break and/or vacation I hopped on a plane went back home to The Bahamas.
My father was an avid sportsman and extreme professional and my mother loved working with interior design so I like to think I’m the perfect mix of the two and that is why I am who I am today. My father instilled some key knowledge and values in me centered around and focused on business which has given me an edge on persons my age in the business field. Even though I’m not a decor guru like my mom, I do appreciate ‘pretty things’, which is where my love for building brands comes from.
I’ve always had a strong support system from both parents and other family members and a few friends along the way.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own Chameleon Management Group, a boutique Marketing and Branding agency based in Nassau, Bahamas that focuses on but isn’t limited to smaller and personal brands. We are in the business of getting to know each of our clients to provide whatever is needed to meet their brand building and marketing needs. The goal is to help our clients stand out amongst their competitors without breaking the bank. We do it all including brand creation and management, project management, marketing management and business consultation.
I am most proud of being able to start this business and maintain family oriented relationships with all of our clients. We’ve built bonds and become an integral part of their successes. Maintaining the agency in a market that is just now catching up to the branding wave was tough but through dedication and hard work we are still standing and going strong, more than 7 years later. I’ve learned that you have to stay committed to your visions and overall goals, fully understand your target market and hone in on them, invest in yourself, your business and your clients, build relationships and always be fair and honest.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The good thing is my best friends live in the same place I do and we always… I mean ALWAYS, have the best time ever! Because we love to eat, we plan a girl’s night out at least once a month at a nice restaurant. We get dressed up, hair done, makeup fixed (my bestie is my MUA) and go out and eat. I’m always a big movie fan, so whenever a new movie comes out I am first in line to purchase tickets for the VIP section… you get cosier chairs that lean all the way back, blankets, an amazing menu with your own server. Yum! Living in The Bahamas affords me the opportunity to always visit the beach so that is definitely also on the list.
Because my agency has me busy with a lot of events and entertainment, my favourite spots tend to be more laid back and chill. If I had to pick, some interesting places to check out would be:
– Swimming with the pigs in Exuma
– Visiting Dean’s Blue Hole in Long Island
– Underwater Coral Reef Sculpture Garden in Nassau
– Stuart’s Cove to swim with the sharks in Nassau
– The waterpark at Baha Mar
– The Dig at Atlantis
– Visit the National Art Gallery in Nassau
– Visit Ardastra Gardens & Wildlife Conservation Center (zoo) in Nassau
– Arawak Cay (Fish Fry) in Nassau
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
