We had the good fortune of connecting with Prince Durocher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Prince, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
My name is Prince Durocher and I am from Broward County FL. My parents are from Haiti and they came here so I can become something. My upbringing was rough. I was bullied for being fat at a young age and being poor. My parents ended up getting a divorce I lived with my mom along side my brother. Fast forward to 2012 where my mom met another guy and had my sister. Sadly my step father passed from pancreas cancer. It tore my mom apart because she was already sick and we were just getting by. My mother ended up passing a couple years after him from heart failure. As of now I take care of my siblings and they are truly all I have. My upbringing impacted me massively. It created characteristics like dedication, perseverance, resilience and many more. It showed me the inner strength that I thought I never had as a young kid.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My stage name is Obeyprincee. I am a dancer/entertainer. I am a content creator. I have two YouTube channels that are thriving. One for my dance videos and one for my family. I’ve been in many concerts, opened up for Sza, Cardi B and many more. One of my dance videos went so viral that I got the opportunity to be in the Nicd and Slow Ballgreezy music video. I got invited to the B.E.T Awards and enjoyed every moment of it. It finally felt like I was getting recognized for my work. I made it to the second round on AGT and plan on working harder to get back on it. I can go on and on about how much I’ve accomplished but in life that’s the only thing people see. People only see your success. The challenges I face to get to where I am today professionally was the constant doubt. I had friends tell me that I shouldn’t create a YouTube channel or I shouldn’t dance. I made efforts day in and day out to practice and learn new dance moves in a racquetball court in my old neighborhood. I studied the art of making people enjoy what i do by watching me dance. I bring lyrics to life and tell a story when I dance. Balancing my responsibilities and still pursuing my dreams is a all around the clock job. You have no time for yourself but you will when your hard work pays off. What sets me apart in anything is my consistency! Eric Thomas said “You may be bigger, stronger, faster but you will not outwork me!” I understand that philosophy. While my competition is sleeping I’m grinding. I want the world to know that Obeyprincee is putting South Florida on the map. In any shape and form. It’s hard making out of here and when some people do they don’t really represent how they should. I’m here to do it right!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love my city. I love everything about. A couple places that I truly enjoy and would recommend is for sure you gotta go to any beach! Our beaches here in South FL is gorgeous and the vibe is phenomenal. You won’t understand until you travel out of Florida and then come back and see palm trees. Another thing is I’m big on food I love good food. Something about Benihana’s really hits home for me. The food is crack! I can eat that all day everyday. When your down here you gotta go out on a boat and ride jet skis! Every time I’m on one I feel like the king of the sea! What’s even more fun is driving slingshots. They’re so cool to me driving around. The hot spots are Fort Lauderdale, Miami , and the Hard Rock Casino. Enjoy your time anywhere around those areas!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout goes to the people who seen a boy who was to prideful to ask for help and love. To the people that really was strangers and became family. The Philizaires, Thomas, Browns, Archibalds, Williams, Desirs and Yanceys. They really help me out of a potential depression that I probably wouldn’t have made it out of after watching my mother go 8ft into the ground. They came in my life and helped me delegate my responsibilities, my mindset and honestly my life. They showed me what a family really means and showed me that I belong in one. Shoutout to my family members that still keep in contact with me and support me. They may not know it but their presence to me means everything. Shout out to my friends who became brothers. Who seen what I’ve been through and stuck by my side. Chris, Bryce and Jajuan opened their arms for me and was really there for me.. Jerry first hand witnessed the pain I been through and share tears and dreams with hope of changing our families lives. Shout out to my sister’s family the Anestals for showing me how much they have our backs. No matter what they are there for us no hesitation, taught me how important it is to be there for family. Shout out to my little brother Josh. I love that man to the death of me. I know he’s just as strong as I am because we’ve been through everything together. I was 10 and he was 5yrs old roaming the world together. My mom could never understand why I would bring him everywhere with me and she hated it. I just needed my other half with me at all times becuase I know if he’s with me he’s good.Shout out to my sister Dieula, for always keeping a smile on her face. All she ever wants to do is put a smile on my face and she may be so young now she just doesn’t know how much that helps me to keep going. Shout out to my father. Even though things went wrong in our past and broke our family, through those experiences I learned to accept everything and to let go of the resentment I had becuase I’m still little junior that always wanted to be around daddy. Shout out my Mom. Word can’t describe how much I miss you and how much you’ve impacted me as a individual. I’m so proud to be your son and so grateful to have you as a mom. Even though it seemed like we didn’t have anyone there for us, you always made it known that all I need is the people in our house. You were truly my everything and I now understand the definition of you only have one mom. Shout out to the love of my life Jocelyn Durocher. From a young age she seen me for who I am. Went through school and battled our way through life. We overcame so much to get where we are today. My mom was right to marry you. So loving, so compassionate, so charismatic. I can go on and on about how much I love but I can’t put it in words which is why I try to show every single day how much I love you. Without you my life would have been completely different. I lost my mom and I cling on you to help me cope through it all.. I pray to be in a position one day to really show everyone I shouted out how much they really mean to me.
