We had the good fortune of connecting with Pseudo Mero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pseudo, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by daily life, by nature, by history and heritage. Art is everywhere. That’s the reason I tend to be surrounded by it and to give my biggest respect to it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
If it wasn’t for drawing and graffiti I would not be working with art right now. Since I was a kid, my first tools were pencils and a couple of notebooks. I remember reading the newspapers on a daily basis since the very beginning, so that helped me to shape my interests towards politics, social justice and history. It also helped me to look at graphic design and to the balance between text and image. The use of text as an image element became a pivotal part of my concepts. I had to draw everytime and everywhere. Through a very important period of my art-life I’ve been working on text, fonts, handwriting and graffiti-style elements. For a few years now I’ve been exploring other shapes and topics such as plants, animals, re-using, non-objective expressionism and abstraction.
This path hasn’t been easy at all, but very enlightening. Because I am in constant change and in movement, I’ve learned to adapt and to grow. My brand as Pseudomero is oriented to present research-based collections of works that are intended to inspire curiosity and to share my impressions about them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If in Miami I will definitely visit Laundromat Art Space, Spinello Projects, Art Space 305 and Collective 62 and will eat and drink something at The Citadel. If in Naples I would go to The Baker Museum, Method & Concept and would hang in Zeppe’s Tavern. Later I will love to go to Bonita Springs’ beaches and jump to Sanibel for a nature immersive experience. If we go to the Everglades National Park we should take the whole day to explore the different trails and visit Flamingo Park for a boat tour.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize the influence my family have in me. Also, history and nature changed me to be aware and to work with my humbleness on a daily basis.
