We had the good fortune of connecting with Queen Naja and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Queen, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am originally from the DMV area. I was born in Southeast Washington D.C and raised in Suitland Maryland. The DMV has some of the most talented, smart, and amazing people who often don’t make it out of the city. Growing up I didn’t speak much but I was very observant of my surroundings and I always just imagined moving out of the city and creating a brand for myself. Being from the area has an impact on who I am today because it motivates me to keep going. I went to Suitland High School if you were to look it up on the internet you will see the bad news such as students getting arrested, police investigations and so on but they don’t tell you how bright and talented the students are. They don’t tell you about the programs that the school offers to help the students build a solid lifestyle. I love where I am from! it just motivates me every day to never give up, I’m just a regular girl that has a dream. When I accomplish everything I just want to go back to my city and help the community and show them that they can do it too!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As of now I refer to myself as a podcaster. I started off as a radio host at Barry University on their radio station 99.5 FM. Doing my show for the four years I was there I was able to build a solid group of supporters and since graduation I’ve just kept going with the brand. My show is called ALL FACTS where I interview people in Miami artists, entrepreneurs, entertainers, and sometimes its just regular girl talk. My show is about transparency being real and meanwhile teaching my audience a tool or giving them something that they can take away and apply to their life. I am very excited to venture on my own I recently found the best studio where I record the show and I look forward to the growth and the blessings that will follow from just being myself.

Ive gotten to where I am today by taking risks, staying consistent, and believing in myself. Of course it wasn’t easy because growing up I always had people that underestimated me in a lot of things that I did or wanted to do. But everyone isn’t going to see your vision so I block out the negativity and stay focused. I have had a lot of people tell me no and laugh at me or call me crazy when I tell them what I want to do but you just have to always have confidence in yourself and be your biggest supporter.

I want the world to know that I’m one of a kind and I’m making a brand off of the one thing people used to tease me for all the time, MY VOICE!! I laugh at it now because I don’t care but growing up my voice was always high pitched and sweet and people would make fun of it. Its just a coincidence now that Ive gotten into public speaking and I’m actually good at it. Now I have people that actually hit me up and tell me that I’m talented and want to interview with me. I would have never thought that I would get into radio/podcasting but everything happens for a reason, I believe this is a part of my purpose. Ive learned that everything ultimately starts with YOU. You have to show up for yourself even when others don’t you have to be your biggest cheerleader and people will come along.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends come to Miami we always have a good time! I would take them downtown to Bayside set up a boat tour then slide to Bacon B*tch because the food is amazing. Depending on the time period they come we can always go to a Heat Game. After that I’m taking them to South Beach so they can feel out the vibes if they don’t like that beach were going to Sunny Isles because that is my favorite beach its so peaceful and chill. When it hits night time of course were going to party we can go to Tootsies, Playhouse, KOD throw some ones on the dancers enjoy some drinks and have a good time. Then I would take them to Wynwood which is one of my favorite places show them the art, museums and get some good food.

In my view the most fun thing would be the clubs. I love partying in Miami especially during my college days I was always at a party or event. My favorite events or things to check out would definitely be Art Basel its so fun you get to meet so many people and all of the celebrities are out! I Also like Miami Swim week I hope to one day be a part of a fashion show. The ladies are beautiful and also the fashion shows are inclusive with plus size models and different types of people which is amazing to see. Lastly, I love Carnival its so fun I wasn’t able to experience the Caribbean culture until I came to Miami. The outfits are beautiful, the food is amazing, and everyone is dancing and enjoying themselves.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my MOM!! she did the best she could with what she had to raise me. She believed in me before I believed in myself I don’t know where I would be without her.

Shoutout to my college mentor from Barry University, SAV!! He really opened up my leadership abilities being the Student Manger at Barry Radio was big for me. I didn’t think I was ready for it but I learned that sometimes in life you’re not going to be ready sometimes you just have to take that risk and learn along the way. He always motivated me told me that I was a star and I was made for radio. Every person needs that figure when they’re in a different state away from their family I have so much love for him!!
