We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Loebs-Hertlein and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I truly believe the hobbit that helped with my success is my work ethic. I have always been someone who felt like showing up and working hard paid off. I know being a reliable person goes a long way, showing up early and putting in real work almost always ends in success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Master Instructor at SoulCycle, the cofounder of Retreat Yourself (a Retreat company) and also the co-podcast host of ‘More Than Sweat’.. I started teaching at SoulCycle over 10 years ago in New York City. I moved to New York right after college to pursue acting and music and always had a love for fitness. After being completely burnt out from bartending, I auditioned for SoulCycle and started the training program right away. After teaching all over New York, a new studio was opening in Miami in 2016. I jumped at the opportunity to relocate to a new city and have been in Florida since. While 28 weeks pregnant and during COVID-19 (and SoulCycle closed), I had to find a way to keep the community I built at SoulCycle engaged, moving their bodies and also find a way to remain fit and healthy during my own pregnancy. Drawing from the love for community and the mindset that “with community we can achieve anything”, I created my own fitness brand: Cardio Tone Sculpt by Rachel. After my son was born and the world reopened, my business partner and I decided to start hosting retreats and releasing a weekly podcast. This is how our company “Retreat Yourself’ and the Podcast ‘More Than Sweat’ were born.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I would bring them to my SoulCycle class to begin the day with some movement! I would take them for breakfast at Chugs Diner in the Grove for the ‘Breakfast Sandwich’ and a coffee. I love the ocean so I would rent some chairs on the beach and pick up Pura Vida on the way. I absolutely adore my neighborhood, so we would meet for Happy Hour at Level 6 for a beautiful view of the Grove and delicious drinks. We would finish the day by having dinner at Sushi By Scratch.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to first and foremost thank my parents for always pushing me to be the best version of myself and truly making me believe I was capable of anything. A just as important thank you to my incredible husband who is always cheering me on and is my biggest fan. Thank you to my two beautiful children; they may not know it yet but they are my reason for everything. I have the most supportive group of friends who not only support me with my personal and professional life, but are my village who help me raise my children. I also want to thank my colleges and my work family. Some of us have been in this together for years and I will always be grateful for the mentorship and support.
