We had the good fortune of connecting with Ra’Mone Marquis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ra’Mone, what principle do you value most?
Transparency and consistency are two very important principals in every aspect of my life. These two principals help acquire and sustain validity and a bond, whether personally or professionally. From a business perspective, these two components will help you accomplish 3 things. 1) acquire supporters and customers/clients – please note you may have some who “support” you, but it’s morally. They won’t be a client or customer. That’s fine, because they all play a positive role in the success of your brand. 2) Your supporters and customers will spread the word, which will help your clientele and supporters grow. and 3) Retention – you want to keep your clientele.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My business is Tru Phoenix, LLC which oversees my podcast The QB Zone, my blog The Quis Box, and 7 books – 4 of which are Amazon bestsellers. Guided by my objective to Enlighten, Educate, and Entertain; I use my personality, intellect, and various life experiences (good and bad) to make people feel good and to give people an outlet.
What sets me apart is this. I am going to take you on a ride that you’ll be glad you’ve taken, and I am going to tug on a few emotions. Whether you are listening to my podcast, reading any of my books or blog, or witness me interacting with youth through my foundation. You are liable to laugh, learn, and cry in one sitting.
Running a business comes with a lot of challenges and is nowhere near easy. However, not settling for the word no and being patient has gotten me where I am today, and there’s so much more to do and accomplish. I haven’t even scratched through the surface yet. There are 2 things that I am most proud and excited about, and they are: 1. I didn’t allow traumas to cause me to give up on me or my goals 2. I started a scholarship fund through my foundation Tru Phoenix Foundation, Inc. It is named after my late grandmother Amanda B. Fluellen and is a book scholarship for freshmen students attending a Historically Black College and University (HBCU).
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
New Orleans is one of my favorite cities in the world. It would be a week full of Bourbon Street, eating at all the restaurants I love and one I haven’t tried yet. Tuesday would be full of Tacos and Margaritas. Since, we are well versed people, we would enjoy some tours of a few very historical and amazing areas in New Orleans and surrounding areas. Many nights would probably go almost to the sun comes up, as we pretend to be in our 20s again LOL. and painting the town Krimson & Kream (IYKYK).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I can’t say that I’ve benefitted from just one person, book, or activity. For me, it is my village. My village consists of friends (a lot that are more like family than ones I’m related to), a few relatives, frat brothers, 2nd mothers, etc. I often wonder if I’d still be alive if it wasn’t for my village. I definitely would not have made it through and still making it through, life’s hurdles. I have folks who have been my strength when I was week. Folks that fed me when I was hungry. Inspired and poured into me when I was suffocated by pain and trauma. Prayed for and over me when I was trapped by darkness and despair. Individuals that loved me when I lost the love for myself. These individuals reminded me of who I am, what I bring to the table, how I’ve affected others, what I still have left to do, and how limitless my possibilities are. There is focus, intentions, peace, a confidence, and a newfound joy and passion – unlike ever before. I take zero credit. It’s all because of God and my village.
