We had the good fortune of connecting with Randy Fifield and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Randy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I first thought of starting my own business, freedom was extremely important to me. There weren’t many women in my line of work, so actually having the time to incubate my ideas was essential to creating a business that represented me. I was granted the ability to create something completely unique on my own terms that reflects my ethos. One that truly allowed my life, work, and play to feel different than a man’s.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Randy Fifield is completely privately owned and operated by women. So many women are breaking into the industry, and that’s extremely important, but we are still not seeing many female owner-operators. At the end of the day, the industry is still full of adversity, and it takes a very brave soul to run their own company.
When things are easy, we aren’t finding ways to push ourselves. Every mistake is a chance to learn. When I got things right, I tended to question myself. Wondering “wow, really? That’s it?” It almost feels like there must be something wrong.
Ultimately, you have to take risks and make decisions you’re not so sure about. For instance, when I was going for my first loan, there were endless hoops I had to jump through. Once you know those hoops, you are capable of facing them the next time around.
The more you document your process and pivot to the next move, the better off you’ll be.
At the end of the day, despite all the changes and ups and downs, the world is a good place. There’s an opportunity for everybody to shine in their own may. Every person has a special type of magic they can bring to the table. Loving and supporting yourself and what you do is essential, even if it’s not easy. When you enjoy what you do, it becomes what you love, not simply a job.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course, nobody gets here by themselves! Banks like US Bank, Bank of America, CIBC have really put me on the map. So have Fannie and Freddie. I’m lucky enough to have partners in 12 different cities. We’re currently closing a deal in San Diego that I didn’t source myself, but it’s a cash flowing deal in 2024. People are saying that deals are dead and nobody’s doing any business, but that’s simply not the truth. My partners, banks, and interior people who travel the country with me, ensure that connections are fostered. People are doing business today, and we need to stand elbow to elbow to create opportunities for one another.
