Meet Raquel Roget | Marketing Specialist for D2C & Service-Based Beauty Brands

We had the good fortune of connecting with Raquel Roget and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raquel, what makes you happy? Why?
I often find myself coming back to this question every so often, internally. Really thinking about what makes Rocky (Raquel) happy? Also, just generally thinking about my “why”. When you start to lose track of those things, goals get fuzzy, work ethic gets fuzzy, basically everything gets fuzzy. The obvious answer would probably seem to be clothes and shoes, vacations, etc.
But the older I get, the more I realize, being around my family, my mom, my sister, my uncles and aunts, my cousins, makes me so happy. Community is everything to me. It was an instrumental part of my growing up, and now that I’m older, I see just how necessary it is. Outside of my family making me happy, and me wanting to make them happy – helping people, whether it’s through my work, volunteering, or just everyday kindness – truly makes me happy!
Although my father passed away, seeing how he helped people, gave what he could, and just offered kindness to those who needed it, taught me just how important it is. Especially seeing how much it affected the people around him, I hope to have that same effect on others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most proud of my resiliency. It’s SO easy to give up when things aren’t going your way, and to stop trying. I thank my younger self for continuing to push forward even when it wasn’t easy. I look back at all I’ve done in the past decade, and sometimes I can’t believe it! In high school, I wasn’t always the best student academically, mainly because I was so focused on my career (even at 15 haha). I’d be just trying to do decently at school, but on the weekends would be taking fashion classes at F.I.T. (Fashion Institute of Technology), and acing every piece of homework and project presentation. Outside of that, I’d also be creative-directing my own photoshoots with my best friend and taking suitcases full of clothes around town to have models change into.
After graduating from high school, I didn’t go to college; I opted for diving fully into my career in fashion, and I have no regrets. At the time, people tried to make me feel shame for it, but personally, I saw the bigger picture for myself and knew I could bet on myself to make it, and I did just that!
Young ignorance and naivety are not always a bad thing. Sometimes, it’s okay to lean into it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
AH! Having my bestie in town for the week is always fun. These would be my must-dos:
To eat: Definitely have to do a dinner at Zuri Miami in Wynwood and Watr Rooftop at the 1 hotel. Both are so good, I know the food wouldn’t disappoint me. After, we’d stop by Night Owl cookies and get my favorite cookie of ALL time: the Rainbow Over Bedrock cookie. Seriously, it’s so good
The next day would probably get the plantain sushi at Arigatai. It may sound like an interesting combo, but don’t knock it till you try it.
To visit: Besides the very obvious (the beach), I’d have to visit South Pointe Park with them. It’s just gorgeous there. Also, we’d absolutely have to go shopping at Bal Harbour Shops. Avenue 31 cafe is my favorite for a quick bite between shopping, and to not so obviously (very obvious actually) people watch.
Another super fun mention, Villain Comedy Theatre in North Miami. Super intimate setting and always a lot of laughs. Plus, they have drag shows!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother, Crystal, and my maternal line. Specifically, my grandmother and great-grandmother, who largely helped to raise me and taught me so much about beauty, fashion, having good taste, and even entrepreneurship. Without all 3 of them, I would not be who I am today.
Beauty and fashion literally are my passion, and that grew over time. From being mesmerized by watching my mom get ready for work, she was meticulous with her makeup (at the time loved Revlon lipstick), and her hair. She perfected her curls every day. My grandmothers taught me so much about using your voice, being strong, and that you can do it all while still looking “pretty”. That the love of beauty and fashion shouldn’t take away from how seriously people take you.
Honorary mention to my mother’s Essence and JET magazines around the house! 😉
