Meet Ras Marilana | Singer/Songwriter, Producer/Publisher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ras Marilana and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ras Marilana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was always protection and preservation of the arts. I knew from a very young girl that people reacted passionately about the arts. There is a big fear or “devil’ concept in the arts. It’s tainted, tabu, only freaky people or loaners wish to be rockstars… Others, like my parents practiced their talents mostly in private or with family only on holidays or birthday celebrations. Even though I noticed that fear and stayed away from center stage, everything I have done and studied now connects on a much deeper and meaningful level to art and creativity. The fear is still there, but the love and passion for music and the arts wont sooth so easily now. processIt is with this fear, financial independence, notoriety, quality works in mind that I knew i needed a brand, a big brand and all of the official legal titles to protect me as an artist. I began with The Clean Way with Marilana LLC a healthy living brand doing the Social Media thing. Within the first 6 months I felt so healthy and re-energized since disability at a young age that Clean Way Records was born. Quickly I recognized that other artists craved what I had created, protection. I don’t love the industry in total, thoughI am proud to have a motto of Lift the World. Over 300 published musical works later, we are a recognizable trademark in Reggae Dancehall Afro Beats!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Wow, no it is not easy by a long shot. But ohhh so worth it and I haven’t even “Bust” yet. Become recognizable you know by viral standards in music. I am still Broke in the Glamour world. With this said, I love my music, my sound so much. I find it energizing and super healing. I hope others get even a bit of the pleasure i get from my music, my brand, my art, my style. I am proud of working successfully with some of the most talented and creative individuals. I am proud of the links we have and how we never break them. I have been successful in several walks of life and they all take diligence and lucubration. I stay persistent, focused, detail oriented. I am not afraid to fail and practice in front of my fans, my friends. I resist the temptation to take the easier road, the shortcut. I want to know exactly how I got there and how long I wish to say there is u[p to me. I continue to love myself and model this for others. I encourage others to loose the guilt and shame of failure and failure and just keep going. The biggest lesson is to be kind to yourself, never to feel fooled when someone else won or got over on you. Always celebrate the lessons in life no matter how painful, this is why we are here.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This would depend on the friend, We cannot leave out beach and site seeing. So a trip to South Beach and a stroll to explore our culinary delights based upon the energy and flow of our walk. Little Havanah, Little Italy, Little Haiti these are great cultural and musical excursions. Of course we would take a water taxi to explore the city fro the water views by day and a lovely drive or bus tour to see the historic and beautiful bight scenes. I love nature and outdoors so the bridge views and canals are a must. From Gator Park to the classic Biltmore. Miami is a small universe of excitement with many surrounding lovely and historic communities. A must we would have to include a venture to Fort Lauderdale for the HardRock Hotel I would also take them to Hollywood for Roof Top Salsa by the Pool! They would be mesmerized by the delivery mini robots and trams throughout the gorgeous and tropical city

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So I had to think about this one a long time. I believe in giving people their flowers their recognition. I would always thank my parents and the almighty first After that there are many people whom influenced me in the arts, humanity, love and more,… and they are called JAMAICANS… ha ha ha this kind of sounds funny because i have been called negative things for using the genre I do and not being Jamaican. But they created this genre out of pressure and then they pressure you more when you sing it… and I produce it thanks to all of them.
