We had the good fortune of connecting with Renata Cuellar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Renata, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my business is creativity and goal setting.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets my work apart from other Artists, is that I use my own innovations and it is different. About twenty or more years ago I invented my proprietary glass technique.. And it is with these inventions that I evolve on. I incorporate different materials, textures and in person visual effects. I also combine realism and an Impressionistic style of work. Flexibility and a diverse range in ability is also important to me, so that my work is constantly evolving and growing. Something I am most proud about.
I got to where I am today by believing in my work, setting measurable goals and most importantly, following my heart. It has been a long and hard journey. One of the hardest parts for me, were people’s comment about my artwork. I have had a Gallery owner at one time tell me my artwork was too crafty, even though all my life I had practiced fine art. Later on, I worked with this same gallery, my artwork sold immediately at a show I had with them. At this very same show, I presented these two art pieces that I knew would do well at this show. The owner would not allow me to put both up. Not to long after that, I had my own independent show, the two paintings I was told would not do well, sold immediately at my show. And these two pieces evolved into a larger Collection, that many people now love.
Healthy constructive criticism is great. I think we all need it especially to take what is learned and reflect on it. Grow from it and see how to improve. However, on your journey there may be quite a few people who may not share your vision and negatively impact your path. Though, it is in oneself to know how to turn this around and overcome these challenges and continue moving forward,
So I have learned to follow my heart and hope you will too on your journey.
What I would love the world to know about Renata Cuellar Art and my story is the importance of Art is to one’s environment. Over the years, I have had my Collector’s tell me they cried (of happiness) when they first saw my artwork. Or that they were at one of my shows and my artwork stopped them in their tracks or how having my work up lifts their mood every day. This is so special to me. To know I am improving people’s lives through my art. That I am moving their soul and creating a positive emotion in them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I am a Mom, so I don’t really go out for hanging out to often. Most of where I go is more family oriented. Although, Wynwood walls is always nice to visit. There are so many murals to appreciate and fun restaurants to visit. The Frost Museum is really nice for families. I love petting their baby sting rays! And of course, there is always a day at the beach.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course! I love shoutouts! I would love to recognize my parents and my sister for their constant encouragement in my career.
I have also been blessed to have a fashion designer and Artist mother, Milena de la Pena. I have learned a lot of techniques from her over the years.
Also, my parents when I was very young saw I had an innate talent in art, so they enrolled me into the Roslyn School of Painting. I am forever humble to the foundational Art teachings this school taught me.
The owner at the time and exceptional Artist, Charlie and I built a strong bond, along with another instructor and phenomenal Artist, Julieann Smith. These instructors taught me the anatomy of Art per se and I am forever grateful.
Furthermore, I am so thankful to each and every one of my Collectors and those who follow my work. Since, I also specialize in custom commission artworks each Client/Collector has come to me and asked for very personalized artworks. This means the world to me, to be entrusted with such responsibility to execute such meaningful works of art. And the feeling extends, when a Collector acquires artworks from my personal Collections.
