We had the good fortune of connecting with Reshma Baddaloo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reshma, what is the most important factor behind your success?
While financial growth has long been acknowledged as the key metric that indicates success; my success isn’t defined in that manner. To me, success is the ability to impact positive change within my ecosystem, whether it be my friends, family, career or within the community. As a dental practitioner, we are recognized for our work with teeth; however, when distilled, our purpose is to refine people, bringing about a better, prouder version of themselves. My success is measured by how many people/patients I am able to positively impact when they come to my practice. It’s about fostering meaningful connections, leaving a lasting impression and contributing to the well-being and growth of those I encounter.

What should our readers know about your business?
Smile Studio by Dr. Resh is more than just a business or brand; it’s a testament to my passion, resilience, dedication, and community. Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, I left home with a dream to study and become a dentist. I committed myself to graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelors from Barry University (Biology Major and Chemistry Minor), followed by achieving my doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.

Following my studies, I sought out opportunities to continuously improve my expertise in diverse dental disciplines by shadowing and working alongside as many dentists and dental professionals as possible through internships, apprenticeships, contract opportunities, and full-time roles. Overcoming the distance from my Trinidadian roots was one thing; working with many different personalities and practices was another, but building the confidence to start a business of my own used to be my biggest fear of all.

With faith, family, education, and the professional network I built along the way, I’m beyond proud of what Smile Studio by Dr. Resh has become. What sets Smile Studio apart is not just the comprehensive services my practice offers—ranging from General, Family & Cosmetic Dentistry to Botox and Invisalign—but also the genuine love and smiles patients and staff experience all around as a result of my craft. I champion the belief that every patient, regardless of financial considerations, deserves the best care. While I have been honored with accolades as a result of global dental mission trips that I’ve done and continue to do, I am firmly committed to breaking barriers for minority women entrepreneurs like myself and doing so with a smile.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Miami is recognized as one of the more vibrant cities across the United States; when visiting and planning a trip it would be important to highlight theelements that would make Miami stand out and
also acknowledge its diversity as a destination. I would try to incorporate a mix of Miami’s cultural, artistic, natural, and culinary highlights to provide a diverse and exciting experience.
1) Explore Wynwood walls for street art, visit Perez Art Museum Miami. Probably grab drinks and dinner in Wynwood’s eclectic dining scene. Some of my favorite spots in Wynwood – Fireman Derek for desserts, 1-800- Lucky, Astra, Sugarcane, Momosan Wynwood for brunch
2) Explore Key Biscayne – Crandon Park beach in the day, Miami Seaquarium
3) Relaxing Day – Explore Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, relax at Matheson Hammock Park
4) Waterfront dining – a couple of my favorite spots – Seaspice Miami, Tiki Tiki Dania Beach, Casablanca on the bay
5) Brickell – City centre (Shopping, cuban coffee, spa day) Dinner at a trendy restaurant in Brickell. There’s so many to choose from – Sexy Fish, Komodo, Gekko, Dirty French, La Mar By Gaston. Marion
6) Relaxing beach day – stroll on Hollywood beach, rooftop yoga at Magaritaville, frozen drinks at the boardwalk bars followed by dinner at one of my favorite spots, a peruvian restaurant – Pachamanka

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success is a collective effort, not the result of a solitary endeavor. It took a village of dedicated individuals, each contributing their unique skills and efforts, to help me build my brand. From my neighbors who helped me paint, to the my patients who offered their services, to the janitors; everyone played a key role. A huge shoutout to my family and close friends who showed up when i needed them the most. I also want to extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. Ronia Baker and Dr. Jerri Hines. Your guidance has been transformative, and empowered me to stand up for myself as a woman of color and a minority woman in the workplace. Your wisdom has been invaluable, fostering strength and resilience in navigating challenges.
