We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricky Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ricky, what do you want your legacy to be?
I’d like to be known as the producer I continually strive to be entirely rather than for a particular sound. I like to leave my audience anticipating my next monet. Simultaneously striving to expand my listening audience because of my ability to appeal to a variety of listeners. Additionally, my legacy will include the distinction of helping artists find their sound. I often work with artists who are in the stage of identifying what makes their voices unique, and how to use it as a distinguishing factor for listeners to inquire who they are and essentially gain a new fan.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been around music since infancy. It’s a part of who I am. So it was easy when choosing music as a career but more specifically, choosing to become a music producer began when my father purchased the program Fruity Loops for me when I was in 10th grade. Ever since then it grew and I furthered my interest in that aspect in high school and through college.

Upon graduating high school I attended Bethune-Cookman University. During my four years of being at an HBCU I was in an environment of excellent creators I could collaborate with daily. Such as being the Vice president of an organization titled Livewire. Run by students, our goal was to create a live performance with all original music with a band to showcase the talent on our campus. Also, while attending BCU I played trumpet in the Marching Band, thus giving me the opportunity to further my musical background and experience other cultures when traveling.

After graduating college I had to make the decision of moving back home to White Springs, FL. This involved making sacrifices that required less social time with friends and even family. I have to give the business my primary focus in order to build the business I envision and ultimately leave a legacy. Nevertheless, I trust God that I made the right decision. I know that I can bring the industry to my home town and shine a light on what we have to offer instead of moving to a metropolitan area to chase the industry.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In White Spring there is a portion of the Suwannee river that runs through. Immediately adjacent to one of the White Springs intersections is the Spring House, where underground fresh spring water flows through and into the river. It is one of the most peaceful places in town. Also a place where I take down time as a musician to harness new musical inspirations.

Immediately adjacent to that is the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park, another peaceful place of artistic inspiration.

The Black Bay Florida Fresh Seafood Market for the best eats and treats in town. And of course last but not least my recording studio to conjure up a great time of producing some of today’s hottest new music.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a special shout out to my family, the town of White Springs and everyone who has helped me groom my musical talents. I’m a strong believer in the saying “it takes a village to raise a child”. Since my childhood I’ve always had someone in my corner supporting me in anything I did. From the beginning of me learning to play trumpet in middle school to starting my own business after graduating college.
