Hi Rico, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my career as a traveling DJ has taught me is the incredible power of adaptability and the art of forging connections. With every beat I mix and every crowd I energize, I learn that change is not just inevitable, but a canvas for my creativity. My journey exposes me to the beauty of different cultures and the universal language of music, binding us all together.

This path is more than just playing tracks; it’s about reading the room, tuning into the vibe, and elevating experiences to unforgettable levels. It has taught me to trust my instincts, be bold in my choices, and embrace every moment with passion. The decks are my storytelling platform, where each transition is a chapter in a narrative that I and the audience create together.

Getting to where I am today as a professional DJ was far from easy, but it has been an incredibly rewarding journey. The challenges were numerous, and overcoming them required dedication, adaptability, and a constant desire to learn and improve.

Mastering the art of mixing was the foundational skill I had to conquer. This involved countless hours of practice, understanding the nuances of different tracks, and learning how to seamlessly blend them to create a continuous flow of music. Patience and the importance of honing your craft were the key lessons here.

Speaking to a room full of people was initially daunting. I overcame this by practicing in smaller, more intimate settings, gradually building up my confidence. It taught me about stepping out of my comfort zone and the power of gradual exposure to fears.

Understanding the technical aspects of DJ equipment was crucial. I spent time researching, attending workshops, and learning from more experienced DJs, which highlighted the importance of technical proficiency in enhancing artistic expression.

The business-to-business sales aspect taught me the importance of networking and building relationships within the industry. Learning to communicate my value proposition effectively and negotiate contracts was crucial for sustainability in the business.

Diversifying my music knowledge allowed me to cater to a wide range of audiences. This involved extensive research and experimentation, teaching me the value of versatility and adaptability in my profession.

Learning to write contracts was essential for protecting my business interests. This self-taught skill emphasized the importance of being meticulous and forward-thinking in business.

Balancing various aspects of my career, from gigs to administrative tasks, required effective time management. Developing systems and routines to stay organized was a vital lesson in efficiency and prioritization.

Each of these challenges taught me valuable lessons that have shaped my career and personal growth. What I want the world to know about me and my brand is the dedication to my craft, the versatility of my skills, and my commitment to delivering unforgettable musical experiences. My journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, continuous learning, and passion for music. It’s not just about playing tracks; it’s about creating moments and memories, and that’s what I strive for in every performance.
