We had the good fortune of connecting with Roanen Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roanen, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
It’s probably the most important thing you can do. Taking risks and getting uncomfortable is the #1 thing that separates most greats from average as most people are unwilling to face there fears or do something out of the ordinary. Risk taking has catapulted me into the position I am in today, simply by taking those risks head on and forcing myself to be comfortable with be being uncomfortable. From moving out of my moms, to focusing on my creative work.. Risks are your new beginnings.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’m proud to say I’ve come along way both mentally and spiritually. My faith and my purpose have been becoming stronger by the day. Every time I’ve outdone myself and my hunger has grown more each day. From creating art that will last centuries after me to creating black owned businesses that allow others to do the same, I’m beyond proud of how far I’ve come. But no it was far from easy, chasing success is a long ass obstacle course. From dodging haters, to friends and families projecting their fears onto you, and even your own attempts to continue to one up yourself. Not to mention being a black man in a world designed for you to lose. It is a tiring, painful and sometimes disappointing process. But I do it because I love it and I’m determined to give myself and my loved ones the life they deserve.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely, I could honestly thank everybody that I’ve met and all of you have played a part in my journey. Whether the relationship lasted or not Ive learned from every single one of you. What not to be like hahaha just kidding. But I definitely treasure the relationships and all of the life experiences I’ve endured. From the ones that lifted me up to the ones that made me rethink my whole plan. I’m grateful for every insightful conversation, interaction and opportunity.. as well as every lesson , rejection , and limitation.
